Byron Nelson dies

Just saw the alert on fox sports.

Byron Nelson, whose 11 consecutive PGA Tour wins remains one of the most unbreakable marks in all of sports, has died at the age of 94.

According to a report on the Dallas Morning News website, Nelson died at his home around noon Tuesday.

RIP

That's sad to hear. I was amazed when a few years back someone listed what they considered the greatest achievements in golf and the Nelson Streak wasn't included. I can't remember if it was based on a poll or just the opinion of some individual or a group of writers, but whatever it was, they got it wrong in my view.

With many of the top golfers in England this week, I wonder what memorial arrangements will be made? I know that many of these guys would like to participate in honoring Lord Byron.......

Tom Lehman will probably get a group of guys together overseas before the tourney as he has done before would be my guess. It is a PGA tour event as well so that may be appropriate. RIP great gentleman.

He just wanted to make enough money to buy a ranch. And so he did.

A role model for the ages. Nice story in USA Today (from May 2006):

Thank you, Mr. Nelson.

Lord Byron was a wonderful human being and above all, THAT is what the world will miss most about him. He is one of the greatest golfers ever for sure, but he was also one of the nicest people as well as a great philanthropist. Sad day for the sports world. He was probably sports' greatest gentleman. We'll miss you Byron, but we'll never forget you!

May you rest in peace, Lord Byron. Perhaps the finest gentleman to ever play the game, and certainly a huge influence on the way the game is played today...he will be missed.
