1. Ask each of the qualifiers if they really want to play. I want the top 10 performers who want to play. The trick is making sure I make myself look like the bad person, because I don't want anyone playing to avoid negative press.
2. Let them enjoy the matches. Have fun. They can't do any worse having fun. If their fun is dependent upon winning, there lies part of the problem.
3. Get a punching bag or dart board with Sergio's picture. If we can focus on beating Sergio often, the Europeans will have a much more difficult time winning. However, watching Sergio lose even if Europe wins is part of the fun.
I'd draw straws, pick names out of a hat, etc. to make up pairings. Play pranks on the European team incessantly. Skip every corporate event there was. Leave the course Friday morning and find a quaint local layout to spend the weekend at during the matches and show up Sunday afternoon to see if we managed more than 10 points with my method.
You might be on to something if that "quaint local layout" was attached to a pub and your team managed more than 10 pints before Sunday's singles.
Most of the Euros seem lke people who enjoy an few pints, whilst the US team sip on a few diet cokes. I really enjoyed seeing the pictures of Clarke on Saturday afternoon (when he was rested) standing there supporting his team with a cigar in his mouth and a pint of Guinness in his hand. I can't even imagine a US player drinking once the tournament started.
The future US captain needs to make afternoon / evening drinking mandatory. At least 3 pints per man every night
Thing is the Euros can stop at three //cough//Daly//cough//
..exactly right
he has the right attitude towards the game, and would match Euros intensity as well. and I'd buy him a few brewhas before each round if he wanted, to loosen up. I also think Davis Love would add an edge with his Harley attitude!
I also agree with propagantic type warfare, be it thru jokes or the tabloids...matters little!!
..... it'd be more like the Euros vs. the Beer League...but it'd be a better Cup!!
I feel we should NOT send the top from American reason being is we could send the guys who have nothing to lose and wont get tense in the situation. Plus they would WANT to go. Im not saying send #100 but Im saying maybe 20 to 30 or something to that effect where its not the highly controversial yet talented players.
It's the team selection process that is flawed; it meant that hte Europeans had greater strength in depth.
If I were US team captain, I'd work on getting the players to use centering techniques such as deep breatihng between shots, focus more on the shot than the score or event especially when behind and above all try to get the US fans to rally behind the team even if/when they are losing.
Melissa Lehman tried the last, but it didn't really work.
If Furyk for some reason wasn't on the team, he'd be my first wildcard. He played great golf and was unlucky to meet Paul Casey hitting peak performance. Jim needed an EAGLE to win a hole. Paul and Jim were matching birdies and Jim had only 1 bogey in his final round.
Captaining the European Team it's just more of the same. Play your own game and don't get fazed by any longer hitting US player. TIGER is beatable.
Make everyone invisible to Tiger
Bring 300 pounds of tortilla chips for Phil instead of 200
Invite Tonya Harding and introduce her to Colin and Sergio
No Guinness in the state of KY for that week
Make Lanny Wadkins captain since Faldo took his job
Quote from BBC website about what the Internationals thought about th epasting in Ireland.
Maybe the next captain should start dishing out some American passports ,e.g Ernie

Prior to the event Furyk spoke of "international players who couldn't care less about the Ryder Cup". Well, that's not quite true Jim. They might care less than we do but they all watched it and they all loved it.
And given this is supposed to be a "back to business" weekend, it is perhaps only right to leave the last word on last weekend's events in Ireland to one of them.
"I saw plenty. And I thought the result was really sad," said the well-known Wentworth resident with a big, easy smile spreading across his face.
there's really not that much difference in the quality of the teams, the Euros were deeper this year, but there is definitly a diference in the attitudes. we need more poeple like Fred Funk or Fred Couples who know how to have fun.
First off, Happy Birthday Par5Score2! What are you doing at your computer? You should be out celebrating!!!! :
You are correct about our selection method and honestly, I'm a bit surprised the PGA of America hasn't gone out and made changes to improve the process. I know it's a difficult process, but we have consistently had teams with people who were not playing well going into the Cup. Our only win in the last ten years was triggered by one of those guys (Justin Leonard) that while deserving of being on the team, you would never look at for heroic play. We need a system that rewards guys playing well not only over the two year period, but in the months coming into the tournament.
That being said, we could have put a team together of Tiger Woods' and Jim Furyk's and still gotten beaten this year. The Euro team played outstanding and deserved to win. Anyone looking for faults in the US team is just drawing straws - it wasn't our year to win.

The pictures I DIDN'T enjoy seeing was Woosie drinking the champagne too fast, choking, and then seeing all kinds of bodily fluids coming from his nose and mouth!!!
