Ladies European Tour Driving Averages:
1 Carmen Alonso (ESP) 298.56 yards
2 Laura Davies (ENG) 280.8 yards
3 Ana B Sanchez (ESP) 279.91 yards
Carmen isn't the best player out there, and has plenty of weaknesses in her game, but the point is that women are getting longer off the tee.
Also Carmen is only 22, and 2006 season was just her 2nd on tour, so she has plenty of time to improve her game.
Carmen averaged over 295 yards in 10 of 12 events.
The main difference is in the teaching of younger golfers.
Boys were taught to bash the ball, girls were taught to be accurate. More younger girls are learning to go after their drives.
Things like strength are overhyped in golf. Carmen Alonso is only 5 foot 6 inches tall. Players don't have to be that strong to hit the ball a long way.
She is probably 10 yards longer than anyone on the lpga tour.
By the way she hits 72% of fairways, so she isn't wild off the tee either.
All I can say is that they must be getting a TON of roll on their LPGA fairways. I've never seen a woman have a swing speed up around 120, which is what you need to hit it out there around 300. For goodness sake, Tiger average drives are what, 303 yards? The stats may be right, but I call ****. She must have had some hard pan fairways or a great bounce on the cart path that rolled like 60 yards.
Even when Michelle Wie played in that wet rainy event in Europe not to long ago...the phenom who is suppose to be hitting it out there 280 - 300 regularly, was having a hard time hitting the ball past about 240 yards because she wasn't getting all the roll she's used to on the LPGA.

My wife hits it long. She averaged about 250 yds before her current pregnancy. If I am not firing on all cylinders, she is outdriving me. But then again I am playing the back tees and she plays the mens tees. lol

I would agree if it were just one or two events, but she is consistantly driving it that far, and consistantly outdriving the other girls by alot.
There is one course she drove it an average of 333 yards, obviously that is an easy driving course, because there were a couple of other players up around 300, but most courses she is up around 295-300 yards and well clear of the other players.

It had nothing to do with not getting roll.
It was to do with hitting trees and that stopping the ball.
True on a few holes where she duck hooked it into trees, but not all holes. She did hit some straight the day that I watched.
They only measure it on two holes. I checked her scorecard after a while, and it had her at an average of 215 yards or something, so that would have been one hole of the measured holes so she probably really hooked the drive into the trees on that hole, and got a decent drive on the other measuring hole.
I'm sorry for the mocking. I am a 6 foot, 220lb man. On a good day I hit a 275 yard fade. On a bad, a 240 yd slicerama. I guess I am just jealous. Once I get that draw swing perfected that I've been working on which is starting to work out, I will be bombing it 295 yds (hopefully). Congratulations to Carmen Alonso and all the other women that can bomb it past the men. Now that I've said that, can any of you hook me up with Natalie Gulbis?
She's a man baby... yeah! ... By the way not Natilie VJ, Carmen ... Natilie is definitely not a man!
Carmen is not a man either.
You are probably thinking of Mianne Bagger, who is the transexual who plays on the Ladies European Tour. Interestingly she, formerly he, only averages 232 yards off the tee.
I work with young males and females from 7Am to when I fallout. The Gals don't do the distance, but sure do the short game. Guess that means nothing to RodC.
I used to think Golf was for everyone. Rodney thinks he can play the 'perve'.

Some people will go to great lengths to play from the forward tees.
Indeed, but isn't it strange, if the transexual had the big distance off the tee, or even was a very good player, there would be uproar on the ladies european tour.
