2006 Ping Invitational... top high school players

I just followed the lead group around the course, fantastic playing abilities, including Tad Fujikawa (the 15 yr old that played in the US Open), Ricky Fowler, and Sihwan Kim...very nice young men, very poised, very controlled of their emotions, and was impressed they went out of their way to shake hand with and thank the volunteers after they finished 18 holes.

Bob Tway was there to watch his son Kevin Tway, along with Ricky Fowler (Kevin and Ricky just signed to join OSU Cowboys who won the NCAA Golf Championship in 2006). Ivan Lendyl's 2 daughters were there as well doing well (T4, T9). I rather watch this than the pro's.....was perhaps only 5-10 people following the groups.

Besides hitting it long (and straight off the tee), their approach shots were mostly always on the green....always putted it close, never missing it by the cup by more than 3-4 feet. Funny to see two, if not 3 balls in a tight pattern on the fairway (within 10-15 feet of each other).

The course was in magnificent condition too. Tomorrow is 3rd and final round.

I don't know why, but he's not in the lineup...I don't know what other predisposing event he could have that he would miss this... maybe... high school homecoming? , but lots of talent here.

yeah phillip francis is widely regarded as the best junior in the nation.

my HS team actually played against his (Notre Dame HS) a few weeks ago.

Our team isn't very good so he decided to sit it out.

Looks like Rickie Fowler has 3-shot lead with 9 holes left

He did look good yesterday and would have tied for the lead had he not lipped out a 3-foot putt for birdie on the 18th hole!! ... and he still looks good today.

I think I'll take an extended lunch and watch the last few holes.
