Padraig Harrington won the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship by 5 shots.
The way he controlled the tournament was very pleasing. Once he got his lead, he played well within himself and coasted it home nicely.
He has many 2nd places, alot of them due to brilliance from other players, and many more from him coming from behind to move up the field and snatch a 2nd place.
It was his 10th European Tour victory, and puts him in 2nd place in the European Order of Merit Race behind Paul Casey. Hopefully Harrington comes out on top, because he is a far better player to be called Europes Number 1, which is what the Order of Merit Winner is often referred to as.
Well done Padraig, and hopefully he will win many majors.
He has the game.
Watched the final round this morning. Love watching matches played at the Old.
Always been a fan of Paddy. How can you not like the guy? The European Tour sure has some great events to finish the season. Looking forward to the Volvo Masters at Valderama.
hes not a far better player than paul casey, however i do think he should win the order of merit, paddy, good to see him win at St. Andrews too, some great pics taken there
Congrats to Paddy. He certainly has the game to win a major, and I expect he'll be a factor at several of them in the next couple years. I wish I had TGC...I enjoy watching the European events just due to the variety of courses they play. Alas, we don't have it any more so I just have to read about it on here.

I agree although I wouldn't be dissapointed if if Casey or Howell won it either.
Casey had a huge advantage in the order of merit. Casey is a member of the European Tour only, and he only played a couple of sponsors exemptions on the uspga tour.
Harrington is a member of both the european and uspga tours. He had to play a minimum of 15 pga events. So he spent alot of time playing on the us tour, while Casey was making money on the European Tour.
Harrington was a very stable member of the top 10 before his father died and he took some time out of the game and had difficulty coming back to form.
His win brought him up to number 12 in the rankings. Hopefully he is heading back to the top 10, where he belongs.
I always have liked Paddy and this win will always be remembered by him im sure. Not too many players win on the OLD. Wouldnt bother me a bit to see him break through at a major and i believe he will.

No doubt, though I was upset to hear that the event at Royal Melbourne had been done away with. Renton Laidlaw seemed quite distraught over the news.
I love the Europena tour and wish it was a bigger deal over here. It gets next to no attention. The players are top notch and some of the events are just loaded, even with top US PGA regulars. I love seeing Vijay, Ernie, Sergio Monty, Casey, Harrington, Howell and all the others.
I love how they play in so many places. Australia, Dubai, China, Germany, Spain, Scotland, England, etc, etc. Good stuff.

If the European Tour had more big money events, it could become the premier tour. The usa used to have alot of the best players, so they would be bound to have the best tour because, americans are usually reluctant to travel elsewhere.
Since American golf is struggling a bit to have a big quantity of big name players, they are not guaranteed to have the best tour anymore. Of course Tiger is the best by far, and they also have the next 2 best players, but they do lack the big number of top players that they used to have.
Of course money will probably dictate that they continue to have the premier tour, but I think the European Tour could close the gap a nice bit.

I agree, I just love some of the venues the European Tour plays at and the caliber of the players is top notch. If I was ever lucky enough to be a tour player I'd play both the U.S. PGA Tour and the European Tour.

If you were lucky enough to be a tour player you would play where the biggest purse was , unless of course you earned enough and wanted to give back to the game a little of what you got .....which is a rare occurence these days.
