Lightbulb US Open: Running commentary

Here's an idea: We can use this thread to post comments on the US Open action as it occurs. So, if you see something on TV ("Did he choke on that birdie putt or just misread it?") or catch some hot news from a website ("Sergio's 3 under after 4 holes! This is his year!"), you can share it here. If this thread gets enough activity (especially on the weekend), it could be a virtual chat room for us.

Last Look

Good for Duval.
Woods -1 after 5
Els +3 after 4 last time I looked.

Best of Round 1 highlights to be on ESPN tonight, 8:00 - 11:00. Great for everyone who can't be there, or able to watch live coverage.

Hey, guys. Thanks for picking up on this "running commentary" thread. Maybe we can keep it going through the weekend.

So I'm sitting here in the office eating lunch when what I really want to be doing is sitting at home watching the TV coverage (there must be some, but then I don't have cable, LOL), reading golf books/mags, and surfing golf sites.

Still early, of course, but 50-year-old Jay Haas shoots 66?! Ben Curtis must want to show he wasn't a fluke winner last year at Royal St George's; shoots 68! Not a suprise to see Jeff Maggert up there; has a good Open-type game, I think. Kris Cox? Where'd he come from? Had to check his bio at pgatour.com. First-year cardholder; wonder how he'll hold up in the rarified air atop the leader board (if minus 2 keeps him there at day's end). Man, this is great!

I have been watching most of the opening round(I work a grave yard shift so I am a wake for this). The course couldn't look better. No wind so far, I think that is why the scores have been low. Duval, what can you say, class act. Tough course to make a come back on. Tiger had a rough round. I think he is lucky to have gotten away with +2. The second flight has just tee'd off recently and looks like Phil is -1 thru 3. More to come.

David Duval

I wish him luck in finding his swing. Professional golf could sure use him back playing regularly. When he was on, his game was so pure.

I appreciate your "eyewitness" observations, Keith!
I hope Duval's round doesn't cut down his reborn enthusiasm for golf.

They just postponed the tournament. From the looks of it, they won't be able to get in any more play today.

Not what I expected for a leaderboard, but Phil still has 4 to play. I guess we will pick this up in the morning.
