Nationwide tour vs. The Big Boys

Here's a question: Why is it that every Nationwide tour event, I see the leaders at 18 or 20 under par after Sunday, yet these guys are considered the minor league of the golfing world. If you can shoot an average of 5 under par for four days in a row, shouldn't they be playing on the regular Tour. It's not just one guy either, there's plenty of guys in double digits under par in every Nationwide event. Is it that the regular Tour guys are playing tougher courses? I just can't figure it out.

The more accurate way of describing it is tougher course setups.
Faster greens, pins tucked away more, that sort of thing.

Have you seen the Nationwide Tour's 'rough'? It's just long fairway for crying out loud!

To be honest, I don't watch much of the rounds, I just see the stats and final scores and I can't believe how low they usually are. It makes sense that they're probably playing much easier courses, or at least course conditions.

That sounds like Jealousy, those guys are good and many just need a real break to get in the show. Frankly I like watching the Nationwide tour from time to time.

I went to the Cox Classic in Omaha Nebraska and thought those guys were studs. The course was in really nice shape. Hey under par is under par. If they do well on the Nationwide tour they qualify to be on the PGA tour. They all hit the ball long and then hit the green. It all comes down to who is the best chipper and putter.

I think the main thing is they just can't do it everytime. You look at some of the guys will shoot 7 or 8 under one day and then 1 or 2 over the next, then fire another 5-10 under the next day or to that effect. Watching the scores at the pete dye classic here in wv guy was leading the first day with 9 under and then next day shoots like a 77. If you follow the winners they won't be anywhere near the top for the next week or so. The very slim few who can stay up there weekend and weekout will be on the pga by the end of the year for being the top tier of the money list.

Really the main difference I think is putting and consistancy. All those guys have the ability to go out and post a 63 at any given time, but they also have the ability to post an 83 and ruin their whole week. From what I've seen there are only a select few on the Nationwide Tour that actually play to a high level week in and week out and those are the ones who ultimately get their tour cards.

I do watch the Nationwide Tour when it's on the TGC. I enjoy watching anyone that's better than myself play golf. I watch the women from time to time also. Just trying to see how they play the game and work their way around the course. You can learn a lot.

Some good points there. When I was just starting, I used to watch the Nationwide Tour (then it was Nike Tour) because those guys didn't seem to be swinging as big as the PGA Tour pros. Most of their swings seemed to be a lot simpler and I tried to copy those first.
