At the Tour Championship, Geoff Ogilvy remarked that without the imapct of Tiger Woods, weekly purses might be closer to $2.5-million instead of the $5 to $8 million that most events offer now.
Check out the 2006 PGA Tour schedule below, with the purses rolled back to 1999 levels (in most cases), then ask yourself --
Would I mind playing the tour as presented below? And with the purses as shown below?

If I won a PGA event in 2006 or going forward, I'd want to donate at least 10% of my purse to Tiger as appreciation for his contribution to the popularity of golf and the PGA in general.
Tiger has been pretty good about not throwing his weight around on tour. He could demand, and probably get, all kinds of special considerations from both the tour office and each individual tournament if he wanted. I suspect he could influence the advertising revenue on TV enough to demand a part of the additional money the networks get just from his appearance.
So far, he has opted not to take advantage of his huge popularity in that way, but I believe he could. Fortunately, the man loves the game of golf and wants to have a place to compete. He dreamed of being a part of the tour and winning just like Nicklaus. i believe that is what still drives him.
yep, but geoff oglivy won when the us open when tiger was in the field if im correct, he just didnt make the cut in like the first tournament in 30 years hhahahaha
Yo, StiCard25 -- it's none other than one of the many alter egos in my head.
Don't you have one - or More?
Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport ... and his "friends"
No problem, Frank...I was just shuffling through my brain trying to figure out who in the last few years that might have represented. Thanks for sharing the immense data you've compiled with us in your time here.
