Because he was an alternate, and ended up winning......
Why would him being an alternate make a difference. If someone takes a sponsors exemption, they are not taking a spot from an alternate player. The alternate player wouldn't get in anyway, unless some qualified player withdrew from the field.
There's nothing wrong with a sideshow that attracts attention to the PGA Tour. Selling tickets and entertaining fans is what Wie does and does very well (although this Bill Murray act is getting tiresome). Wie playing golf at the PGA Tour level is a whole different story.
Is there any way to track how many tickets are sold for the first 2 days vs. the weekend?

The sales in rounds 3&4 are usually well up anyway. More people are off work, and of course it is where the tournament winner gets decided. So any measurement of tickets sales should take that into account.
The only real way of measuring it is to take ticket sales in round 1&2 and measure them to ticket sales in round 1&2 of the previous years same event.
It has been reported the John Deere was up 20 or 30,000 on the previous year at the 2005 event. What other sponsors invite could do that?
Who amongst us wouldn't accept a sponsor's invitation to play in a PGA Tour event near our homes? I know I wouldn't and I know you'd be lying if you said you wouldn't. The only difference between you and I playing on a sponsor's exemption in a PGA Tour event and Wie playing in that same event, is that unlike Wie, you and I know we don't have the game to think we belong there.
You know you wouldn't belong there because you wouldn't.
What would you shoot?
Would you possibly shoot 4 rounds of par or better from 10 pga rounds?
Please be honest in that.
I post a thread supporting Wie playing in the Sony and you still want to make it about me. To answer your question.......No, I probably wouldn't shoot 4 rounds of par or better from 10 PGA Tour rounds, but it's not about what I'd shoot. Seems to me it's more about what Wie has been unable to shoot.
The point was you were saying the only difference between you and Wie was X. I was just pointing out that perhaps there is a difference in your playing abilities also.
By the way, that idea about putting good rounds together is really a good one. Perhaps, I will put that to Wie at the Casio. That should really help her. She was only 14-16 playing those events, so perhaps she hadn't thought of it that way.
I neither said, nor insinuated, any such thing. My comparison was strictly about most of us knowing that just because we were invited doesn't mean we have the talent to be there. That's something Wie hasn't come to grips with yet......but she will.
I beg to differ. I think she will keep hitting her head against a brick wall, and eventually she will make a cut, sometime in her mid 20's, I'm guessing, but by then people will be just be saying "Who

You obviously have no ideal of the talent she has. The only questions are how far will she go. It is already very obvious that she will make pga cuts, but also go alot further than that.
Leaguegolf,
There is no need to go looking up dictionary definitions.
If it means immediate, obviously it's not true, but I didn't know there was anything immediate implied by the word obvious.
As regards Wie's 2006 events, she made a cut on the Asian Tour with 5 shots to spare. Then she won her US Open Local and went on to far exceed any reasonable persons expectations at Sectional.
She also showed that when she played a few events together that her putting a short game had a marked improvement.
The most defining thing though in her 2006 mens campaign so far is probably that 2nd round at the Sony. She gave herself 9 putts inside 15 feet for birdies. Some people had claimed that a woman couldn't hold pga greens. She more than proved them wrong. There are a number of things in that round that proved that her gender wouldn't be an issue. She shot a 68, which only 11 players beat, and more importantly she did that while making a number of simple errors, such as 2 three putts, and making a mess of some wedge shots. The important thing is that even with an errant game, she still managed a good score. When she gets a bit more consistant, who knows how low she can go on a pga course.
Anyway, that's enough of a rant. Some of us have planes to catch, so I'll let you know how she gets on at the Casio.
Remember Leaguegolf is in charge of the Wie in Casio bid. So league, keep the cheering up, and even if her score isn't good, it is league's job to be a loyal defender. If that fails, Wazmankq should put league in his place.
Good luck.
