ADT Championships - 1 million first prize, Annika, Lorena bad start

The ADT Championships has 32 players.

After 2 rounds, it is cut to the first 16 players.
After 3 rounds, it is cut to 8 players.
Then scores are wiped and they play one round of golf with the winner taking a 1 million dollars in prize money.

After 1 round, Annika is at +2, 1 shot from getting in a playoff & 2 shots from getting in to the 3rd round without a playoff of course.
Lorena is at +3, 2 shots from a playoff to make it into the 3rd round.

Will they pick their games up in the 2nd round? If they just scrape into the top 16 after round 2, they would have to move up to the top 8 before the 3rd round, so it isn't that easy, although they are well capable of doing it.

There is likely to be some high profile players not getting into the 8 who will challenge for the 1 million prize though.

Should be good stuff!

2nd place only gets something like 150,000 or something like that, so there could be alot of nervous players coming down the stretch at that tournament.

What are the specifics behind this tournament, rodney? Is it a winners-only one, like the mercedes on the pga?

It used to be the top players on the money list, but they changed it to a slightly different qualification system.
The major winners get in.
Then they split the season in 2 halfs and gave out points for each tournament, and X number of players got through from each half of the season.

Basically it works out with most the same players getting through anyway, they just put in the points system and splitting the season in two halfs to try to add more excitement to it.

By the way, the winners only lpga tournament was just on, but Annika and Karrie didn't bother playing it. Annika played with men instead, and Karrie just rested a bit.

With 4 holes of round 2 to play, both Annika and Lorena are 1 shot out of qualification, or at least a playoff.
Will they qualify?

As of 2:30 PM EST Friday Nov 17 - a playoff for a spot among the Top 16 appears possible.

You were right, it's 6 players in a playoff for 3 spots.
T14 Pat Hurst +1
T14 Juli Inkster +1
T14 Brittany Lang +1
T14 Jee Young Lee +1
T14 Lorena Ochoa +1
T14 Morgan Pressel +1

Lorena should make it, and maybe Pat Hurst and Juli Inkster probably.

Greetings ....

Here are the »» 2006 ADT Championship Final Scores and Earnings

The money prizes actually add up to $1,449,250 - not the advertised purse of $1,550,000. Why is that, you ask? Because the LPGA always takes out 6.5% of the advertised purse in any of their tournaments for "administrative reasons", leaving 93.5% to be divided among the players.

Here's a idea for 2007: a purse of $2.5 million - with NO 6.5% chunk taken out.
Code:
1st ... $1,000,000
2nd ... $ 260,000
3rd ... $ 150,000
4th ... $ 100,000
5th ... $ 80,000
6th ... $ 60,000
7th ... $ 50,000
8th ... $ 40,000
T-9 ... $ 35,000 (x 8)
T-17 .. $ 30,000 (x 16)
Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport

Wow , it may as well have been winner take all. What a disappointment to have both Karrie & Lorena put it in the drink on 17, though. It really killed the drama.
