Auzzie Golf

I don't know what it is but some of my favorite golf to watch is the Nov. Dec. and Jan. Auzzie events.

The announcers are the best in TV. The camera coverage is A1 with camera angles we never see on the PGA, the animated hole graphics are tops and the courses look just great.

That is all, I'm back to the Golf Channel, see you all later.

Well Brian I can tell you we are mighty proud of our TV coverage. It is not bettered any where in the world and I really hope that Europe and USA concerns follow suit. Because our tour has been reduced over the last three or four years we do play on our very best courses but it is worth noting that Huntingdale where the Australian Masters has just concluded is not ranked anywhere near the top 20 courses in our country. In Melbourne we have at least five courses that rate above Huntingdale and approximately six other courses equally rated. Thanks for you note and the fact that you recognise our coverage and courses because I can guarantee golf is a paradise here 'down under'.

I also really enjoyed this weekend's coverage. It was great to have some live top-notch golf to watch before nodding off. Some of those greens were frightening, supposedly running around 13 on the stimpmeter. Did any of you folks catch Greg Chalmer's 5 putt ? The last 4 being all inside of 3'. That was painful to watch and a credit to him that he was able to climb back into it. It looks like the Aussies have another good one in 21 y/o amatuer(for now) Aaron Pike.

Great to see a Pom win in Oz, while the cricket team are getting mauled.

Oz is a great golf destination, with green fees as cheap as you want or if you play top courses ,reasonably priced.

BTW, It`d be great to see Justin Rose make the next Ryder Cup team, with all his Walker Cup and American Tour experience...Faldo would get the best out of him !

I`d also like to see Alejandro Canizares make the next Ryder Cup team too.....we need some new blood to scare the opposition with..... ....................

The results of the past couple Ryder Cups would suggest that the opposition is plenty scared to begin with....

....only a neutral Canadian could get away with that remark..... ...!

Actually, I think there might be several young rookies next time around on the European Ryder Cup team! It could (finally ) prove to be a golden opportunity for the American team imo!............. ........

A golden opportunity to embarrass ourselves in front of the world again, maybe.

Anyway, I wish I had the Golf Channel so I could check out this coverage...it sounds top notch!!

Green fees are very reasonable. The top five or six clubs tend to charge between A$100 - A$200 but we have so many high class courses that are in the A$50 to $75. There are also courses that are down the coast, about one hour from Melbourne, where you can play for as little as $40/$60 per round and that includes the site of the Australian Open two years ago, Moonah Links. We have so many great courses in the Melbourne area and naturally they are all competing for the almighty dollar so that keeps our pricing very fair. If you are fortunate to know a member of one of our great courses the green fees are cheaper again. Hope that helps.... see you 'down under'.

what a great talent, being from good blood too (son of Jose Maria).
Gonzalo Fernandez Castano also looks like he could be a great ryder cup player, just too inconsistent to make his way onto the team, for now anyway.
but he will be at the World Cup with Jimenez.

I've been enjoying the coverage of golf tournaments in New Zealand and South Africa on the Golf Channel this weel. It makes you realize that golf is truly an international game and there are a lot of quality golfers in other parts of the world.

That New Zealand layout they're playing looks horrible. Buildings all around. Freeway with honking cars driving by. It looks like some of the dog track munis I've played. Does anyone know what its reputation is ?

That would be Gulf Harbour, site of the NZ Open this week, right? According to a GD article I found, it ranks as the 5th best course in the country and 76th best course to be found outside of the US. Sounds like they might have been overstating it. I don't know, since I haven't seen any of the coverage.

I played a number of public courses around Sydney ten years ago, which were in good condition and very well priced - $35 on average,no buggy. Each course had an Open event during the week , so you could play a Stableford competition. I played 13 rounds in 21 days, with 5 days watching cricket.
