I'm not sure but I read an article that said on average a caddy gets paid 5-10 percent of the players purse for each weekend, along with $1,000 a month for travel/food.
Steve Williams is the richest Kiwi "sportsman". I am not sure of his earnings for 2006 but the year before his income was set at a reputed $4 Million. On top of this it is worth noting that the shirt that he wears bears an advertising logo, not related to golf, that would earn him a healthy sum. You would have to think that Tiger would also cover all expenses like air travel and accommodation so his gross earnings are in reality net earnings because he would have hardly any expenses.
I'm willing to bet that Stevie gets a base salary and then gets bonused depending on where Tiger finishes....and I'm willing to bet that his bonuses at majors is greater than regular tour events. I'd have to think that most of the top players who have caddies that have been with them for a while have similar arrangements. As i recall, one of the reasons Fluff McCowen(Furyks caddie) was fired by Tiger was for revealing what he was getting paid.
Stevie's also a proffesional stock car driver and has numerous endorsements for golfing products and racing products. I'd say he's fairly comfortable financially!

That is the understatement comment for the year 2006 ...... well done !
I wonder if Stevie will ever be allowed to write a book on Tiger, imagine the stories he could tell.
Actually, he did write a book and was pimping it on one of the sports channels a few months ago. I don't think it was a book about Tiger, more about the insights of being a tour caddy.
I wonder how much better we all would shoot with a guy like Steve helping us out. I am betting I would shoot par at least with someone telling me exact yardages and reading putts for me.
