It would seem to be no coincidence that VY & Phil did not play Tiger's event last week. I believe that bad blood exists between these players and good on Tiger for not making an issue of there absence. VY & Phil are the losers here and the event was better without them.
Phil hasn't played since Ryder Cup. The top 11 players in the world were invited, they just turned down. VJ has been there in the past, and I'd say he just wanted to spend some family time before Xmas. On the other hand, I find it crazy that Harrington has played 5 weeks in a row, on 3 different continents. Not much of an off-season there
The golf world must be bored if that's an issue. Bad blood between Phil and Tiger is probably just Phil's jealousy because he was annointed "The Next Big Thing", but then Tiger turned pro and killed his chances. As for Vijay, the guy is a hall of famer. I truly believe he doesn't care who his friends are. I bet him and tiger are actually buddies and are laughing as they are toy with the gullible media with this stupid "he said/she said" stuff. Sooooooo high school.

Phil really doesn't play much golf ANYWHERE after the PGA Championship. I think last year he played at the Grand Slam of Golf in Hawaii but that was an exception. I also think that in 2005 Phil's self confidence was in the upsurge and he really thought he was going to steal Tiger's thunder in 2006.
I think part of Phil's problem is he's too fixated on beating Tiger. Tiger is just fixated on playing the best golf that he can. He doesn't worry about other guys he lets other guys worry about HIM.
Phil's self confidence has taken a beating. It's going to be interesting to see when he decides to play again and how well he play's.

The golf world is bored right now...it'll be quite some time now before the season really kicks into swing.

I'm not too sure it will effect him that much after all he's had close calls at the U.S. Open before. In 1999 Payne Stewart drained a thirty footer on 18 that kept Phil out of a playoff and don't forget Shinnecock Hills ( 04 ) where Goosen made everything in sight to nose out Phil. He's had his share of disapointments but they still pale to Greg Norman's disapointments.
First of all, Phil Mickelson's self confidence has NOT taken a beating. What happened at Winged Foot is water off a duck's back, I guarantee.
The Mick will open his 2007 TOUR season at the Hope and likely play four straight before skipping (as usual) Riviera.
A couple of guys, including Davis Love III, have bumped into Phil during this off-season and have noticed a slimmer, trimmer Phil. I fully expect yet another solid season from Phil in 2007.
Over the last five years only Tiger has matched Phil's consistently good play in the majors, and I wouldn't be a bit surprised to see Phil win a major in 2007.
