Good to see Lorena get what'll probably be the first of several such awards. No one else in women's athletics seemed to stick out this year, so she was deserving.

Why would Mauresmo win it? She was handed the Aussie Open due to injuries to both her semi final and final opponents.
She did win Wimbledon in fairness, but Justine Henin had the far superior season. Justine made all 4 slam finals, winning the French Open, and she even won the season ending championships, in which she gave Mauresmo a whippin and secured the number 1 ranking for herself.

For ladies, Justine Henin should have got the award.
Lorena didn't even win a major.
