I`m curious Donnakay..why the dislike for Phil if you don`t mind me asking? As you`ve expressed this sentiment on other threads in the past too!

Phil who ???? This guy loses all of his competitors values with 1/4 of the season to complete. Get fit Phil and complete a full season I ask. The vast majority of Tour players have a 2 to 3 week break but not Phil, he just spits the dummy and goes home for a few months ...... loser !!!!

CBC, don't know if I would even go so far as to say "dislike". He is just not someone I find it easy to warm up to like I do, say Jim Furyk or Ernie Els or Faldo. Tiger is in his own special category - SURPRISE!! lol

There are just some people who touch you, make you smile or root for them and others who don't. Phil falls into the category of those I just don't get that warm, fuzzy feeling about - ya know? Frankly, I felt the same way and still do about Jack Nicklaus. Although I admire their skills and don't dislike them like I do, for instance, swarmy little Sergio, I just never really felt the desire to pull for them.

Why? Just because that's how I feel - no logic, just visceral reaction.

BTW, Tiger isn't playing this week either is he ? He said that he wanted to spend more time with his "family", which I believe pretty much consists of Elin , right ?... who generally travels with him, right ? Whatever...It's really too bad that the top 2 players plan to sit out what should be a premier event.

I agree. It's one of my favorite events of the year, probably top 5. It's almost like a Tour Championship to start the season.

But seriously, The Plantation Course is one of the most unique courses they will play all season.

He could also mean his mom, and I believe he has a stepbrother, neices, nephews, etc. The news said he is skiing. He has a place in Jackson Hole, WY, so they may have plenty of guests for all we know.

I suppose, but my guess is that "I just don't feel like playing this week" didn't sound as good. I'm not knocking him. I do wish both he and Phil were in the field, though. Also, I've found that company, relatives or not, are like fish in that it gets old after a couple of days.

So Waz, it's safe to say that you would choose playing golf in Hawaii over having relatives over for an extended stay???

Waz, I admit I was a bit surprised Tiger isn't playing since he clearly stated that last year's absence was all about Dad's illness and that he would be back in 2007. However, perhaps it has to do with Elin's pregnancy....depending on how far along she is, the flight may be proscribed and he would have had to leave on her birthday.

But, he said it was because he played vacation time with family instead of preparing for the tourney.....so I'll assume it just wasn't very important to him. Too bad.

I'd say playing in Hawaii is no big deal when you spring and summer at places like Augusta, Oakmont, and Carnoustie.

It'd be great to "see" both those guys in the field next week, but it's their perogative not to and both will provide their fans and fans of the game with enough the rest of the year that we'll probably forgive them by the time the sun sets on 2007.

I thought Furyk was #2 in the world now, am I wrong?
We should all be used to it, as far as Phil goes, he has always taken alot of time off at the end of the season. Tiger usually starts with the Buick anyways. The new FedEx points means nothing to Tiger, I believe he is mostly after the Majors and alot of world events.
