Take it easy on Phil. I bet he's in the weight room working up a good sweat as we speak.

Yea it seems like Phil has lost the respect of the fans that used to cheer for him.Seems like fat cat syndrome. Arogance at its worst. I think everyone is starting to see through him. He is one of the most disliked players by his peers. Its to bad

Phil is far, far, far from being on my list of favorite players but I don't get the anger at him for choosing not to play the Mercedes. It's a prestigious event for sure but isn't part of being a pro golfer being able to pick and choose your tournaments? So far, Tiger has yet to commit to this event either. They'll both play their usual number of events and the Tour rules allow them to select which those will be.

I wonder if Phil will be "back" this year, or if he is still reeling like he was following the US Open...

Phil not playing the Mercedes has nothing to do with his US Open collapse or the FedEx Cup. He has not played at Mercedes since 2001.
Yeah, he may be a "fat cat", but I guess he feels he is not a "horse" for this course!

Just my opinion, but I don't think he, or anyone needs an excuse not to play, it is their choice. His head still might not be right after his big loss. He shouldn't play until he feels confident that he should be out there. I do hope he comes back soon though.

you'll probably see Phil in the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and Tiger in the Buick Invitational for their first starts.
