Hey guys, I just got Direct tv, and with our new package TGC. I'm sitting here watching the first round coverage of 2007, and just wondering what you guys thought of their tourney coverage so far? Seems like they are a little more "laid back" than the traditional coverage, with a few more jokes, and a lot of laughing in the early coverage.
Imagine...Faldo and Miller did the NBC Ryder Cup broadcast in 2002, I believe. There's an interesting pair. Although I think Zinger was his perfect running mate to get started...
I do think the whole crew is relying on and quoting shotlink way too much. I don't need to know that a 10 foot putt is 9 feet, 11 inches.
They said Holmes' penultimate putt for the round measure 4' 7"...I say no way...Holmes could've laid down, bodily I mean, between the ball and the hole and I'm pretty sure he's taller than that. He missed the putt, btw, to shoot even.
I just think of Kelly as one of the guys (her low voice is kinda manly if you ask me)...been watchin' her for long enough now to get used to her...and she is knowledgeable and has game, too.
This is not the frist time I watched PGA on the golf channel. The nationwide and Champs tour has been on it last year. And those guy that did those took a laid back look at things. I really enjoyed watching it cause the golf shots being made did most of the talking.
Wasnt bad today, but it seems like me they are a little excited and need to try to stop over doing it. Let the golf shots do most of the talking. Rocco Mediate congrats guy did a good job on the info of the lies! They just need to tone it down a little, and fire faldo
I really like Rocco's on course coverage, him helping find Trevor's ball in the high grass was kind of cute. I like Nick but sometimes her could get a bit on my nerves, he is great commenting off the tee but once the players are putting he really dosen't have much interesting to say.

The coverage of this tournament is always laid back. Back when Terico and Baker-Finch used to do it, they'd be wearing Hawaiian shirts. There would also be a lot of clowning around between the on-course reporters and players. Remember when they used to ask the players all of these silly questions and get funny answers?
I didn't get to watch much of it, but what I did watch I wasn't impressed much with. I saw some poor camera angles where they were behind the player hitting, once the camera was shaking so bad you couldn't tell what was going on, finally they switched cameras. Seemed like the tv commentators (Faldo and Kelly) were to interested in just talking about golf in general more than they were commenting on what was going on at the course.
I liked what I saw of Rocco though. I've always liked Rocco and how he explains everything. Real down to earth guy.
Maybe it was better than this and I just caught it at the wrong times? Doesn't matter much I guess...I'll continue to watch it on TGC because I love to watch golf and it's going to be there for the next 15 years I think? So I pretty much don't have a choice. lol
Ever since the Ice-man (Faldo) thawed and demonstrated a more witty personality I like him. I thought the coverage was well done. I think 14and18 is right about them relying way too much on shot link for the putts. It never gets old, for me at least, to hear how far the Hawaiian winds can help to carry the ball down the fairway. A few too many cliches, but hopefully, as this group becomes more acquainted with one another, that will decrease. Overall an excellent job for the first round.
I thought Kelly did a fine job. I've always thought that she was solid. She's knowledgable, articulate and keeps things flowing. I thought Nick was a bit off his game, frankly. There were a few times when he seemed to lose his train of thought and just sort of mumbled off. I'm sure that he'll be fine once they get used to working with each other.
I was glad to hear Rocco. I've always been a fan of his. They could always go on a tangent with him and talk about Texas Hold'em. He plays a lot and has entered a couple WSOP events.
