When I was at the 84 Lumber earlier this year, I was watching his group play through hole #7 at Nemacolin. Rory hit it into a nearly impossible spot, but hit a brilliant shot from the sand with an awkward stance to a foot or so and made par. Being one of about 15 fans standing around the green, I started to clap, but only got in one clap when I realized I was the only one clapping. I stopped, and I dunno whether he thought I was being a smartaleck or what, but there was a look in my direction. Funnily, he was paired with Ben Crane that day too.

That's funny. Good thing you stopped clapping. He was probably just aching for someone to go off on.

The thing is, I don't see why no one else was clapping. Perhaps because it was basically a tap-in, but the shot he hit to get there was insane. If you or I had pulled off the splayed stance, half in/half out of the trap, downslope to a tricky pin shot he had, we'd be telling everyone we knew about the amazing shot we hit the other day...I guess maybe everyone else around me just thought it was routine.

So you were the lone clapper? That's hilarious!

Did you start real slowly and look around to try to get others to join you?

If only...I've only started one slow clap in my life before. The second woulda been nice, if inopportune.

What is the answer to "what is the sound of one 'card clapping?"
