Maybe this is what she needs to play better. Not having so many people hoarding all over her will help her relax some.
You are right there.
Actually in the story that shaderunner quoted, that article was trying to put forward the point that she wasn't getting as much attention, but if you read what the players were saying, it was more that they were trying to emphasise that she was just another player and they were used to her.
From the players point of view, it was more that they were saying that she was accepted just like any other player out there, and they were used to her playing on tour.
Wie is playing with Gavin Coles and Stephen Marino. Unless she is duck-hooking her drives into the woods again, it looks like Coles is going to be the first one to play his second shots (no disrespect for the Aussie, his short game is fantastic ).
$10 he beats her. Gavin Coles is no Tiger Woods, but he's got plenty of experience beating longer, taller, stronger and more talented players.

Although short off the tee Gavin Coles was the most accurate driver on the Nationwide Tour in 2006. He also had one of the best short games, and was the 3rd best putter. So you won't get very long odds.
Since you quoted Luke Donald, perhaps it would be interesting to quote David Toms, who actually played with her, so he knows much more than Luke Donald does about her game.
David Toms:
Q. You played with Michelle the other day, I understand that you were talking to her about her game and some of the shots you thought would help her?
DAVID TOMS: Well, I mean, I was very impressed with her game, her ability. She plays a lot like a male player in that she creates a lot of speed through the ball. Not only with her long shots, but around the greens and so forth. She can hit all the different shots.
I just felt like at times maybe she was overswinging, trying to hit a draw for extra distance. She could probably tell after playing nine holes with me that she has adequate distance to play out here at a high level. She can't overpower our game like she does on the ladies tour, so she has to play a different game, more of an accuracy type of game. I think once she learns that, she'll do fine.
Honestly, what do you expect David Toms to say? He'd probably have nice things to say about my grandma's golf game.
How about we ask Vijay what he thinks?
Either way, opinions are like noses () - everybody's got one.

I'm not saying I expect either of them to be dishonest, I'm saying I'd just about fall over dead if David Toms had something bad to say about anyone.
Okay but there are plenty of reporters that claim anything positive said about Wie is just pc talk.
In the article: http://www.theage.com.au/news/golf/c...105117635.html
her playing partner Gavin Coles is positive about her, and the article claims he is just being diplomatic. How would they know? Perhaps he is actually in favour of her!
PS: In the article Coles is also making excuses as to why his performance may not be that good. If Wie did that, there would be uproar on the forum.

That headline sure isn't diplomatic
Look, regardless of what David Toms or Luke Donald or an Aussie sportswriter has to say, it's all irrelevant. If you're going to get upset about anything negative people have to say about her, you're going to spend alot of your time upset (and vice versa, of course).
I could see myself being a bit ticked if I were Gavin Coles - something tells me he's had to fight tooth and nail for every inch of ground he's gotten in the pro game, and I could imagine it not sitting too well with him watching the free ride she's gotten.

But in the end, it's all about how she plays.
By the way, another media outlet posted exactly the same story about Coles talking about Wie but used the more appropriate headline: Bathurst Battler sticks up for Wie http://www.smh.com.au/news/golf/bath...105115771.html
As regards Gavin Coles, he wouldn't be ticked off, he has worked hard and will probably play 20+ pga events. She just plays the occasional event.
...I just felt like at times maybe she was overswinging, trying to hit a draw for extra distance...
I've heard that this is something Ledbetter has her working on. Don't you think that this is a very dangerous approach, especially considering the fact that she's already pretty long ?

I read that with some interest as well, and I think it may actually be indicative of the fact that she might not be quite as long as some people think she is...
Additionally, I would think that it might be a very dangerous approach in light of her recent case of the left's.

Jack Nicklaus was asked about teaching young players.
He said first they should learn how to hit it long, then learn how to hit it straight.
Perhaps Leadbetter wants her to keep getting longer off the tee, while she still has a fair bit of potential to improve, because when players are older it's much harder to add distance then.
