"Michelle Wie becomes the first female to compete in a Fed-Ex Cup event. Yes that is right lady's and gentlemen.. we are at the second Fed-Ex Cup event. Fed-Ex Cup Fed-Ex Cup Fed-Ex Cup Fed-Ex Cup Fed-Ex Cup Fed-Ex Cup Fed-Ex Cup Fed-Ex Cup Fed-Ex Cup!"
As for Wie, I don't dislike her.. just wish the PGA would be men-only and LPGA would be for women-only. I can't blame her for wanting to compete with the best in the world, but she can't even win on the ladies tour. It's getting old.
"can't win on the ladies tour"......hmmm. I think "can't win" should probably be "hasn't won yet"...if you look at her starts on the LPGA and her number of top 10's, it is pretty darn good. Once she learns to close the deal, she could easily win 10 times a year.
As far as her PGA tour attempts, IMO she would be well served to play with Corey Pavin for a month prior to going out to see how he plays the game. He competes though he is shorter than any 99% of the guys out there. Once she learns course management, she will make cuts on the mens tour.
I read that with some interest as well, and I think it may actually be indicative of the fact that she might not be quite as long as some people think she is...
Additionally, I would think that it might be a very dangerous approach in light of her recent case of the left's.
I'm sure that her length is over-rated in the minds of some, but she's certainly long enough to get it done at any level, especially off the tee. Length off the tee is not her problem, IMO.
Jack Nicklaus was asked about teaching young players.
He said first they should learn how to hit it long, then learn how to hit it straight.
Perhaps Leadbetter wants her to keep getting longer off the tee, while she still has a fair bit of potential to improve, because when players are older it's much harder to add distance then.
Excellent observation - could very well be the case.

Her record on the LPGA in the few tournaments she's entered is nothing short of outstanding, regardless of the fact that she hasn't won yet. I'm going to be watching her this weekend with a great deal of interest , though, because she definitely took a couple of steps back with her last couple of events.

It's definitely a question in my mind, though Rodney makes a great point in this regard. I'm pretty convinced she averages 280 or so now, i.e. she's long against the women, but quite short against the men.

I think Nicklaus was referring to beginners, not experienced golfers with finely honed swings & skills such as Michelle's.

I don't think her skills are that finely honed as you say.
Sure she has many shots, but there is quite a bit of honing to be done on them yet, in my opinion.

I think it's pretty well honed. Johnny Miller sure thinks so. You can tweak anybody's golf swing, but I don't look at any part of her swing and think "Wow, THAT needs some serious work."
