I watched Phil on the Golf Channel last night. He said he lost like 20 pounds and added muscle. He looked good so maybe he can do it. He is fresh and has won there before so who knows? I really like watching this tournament. OK its like 20 degrees here but the waves are good so I am going out. I swear I get dumber as I grow old!
There is some precedence for Phil taking a considerable time away, then opening his season with a victory at the Hope. He did it in both 2002 and 2004.
You'll remember that '03 wasn't one of Phil's best. He finished 38th on the money list and his season was troubled by Amy's emergency medical situation early on.
My favourite is Justin Rose with John Senden to finish 'Top 5'.
I'm still waiting for Justin Rose to step on on Sunday and play clutch golf at crunch time. The guy has a ton of talent, and he appears to be a nice guy as well. At the end of last year it really looked like his game was comming on and he was playing with more confidence.

So why not go with Phil, huh? I have to.
I watched Phil last night on Golf Central. It LOOKS like he's put 2006 behind him and he's done a lot of work in terms of conditioning, and working to eliminate problems with his driver. I'm not ready to put the anointing oil on him until I actually see him play for a couple of tournaments.
