I've come to expect this in these type of events, so maybe I've become immune to it over the past couple of years. Thankfully I have DVR now, so I can tape it and FF through all of the stupidity.
I've noticed that TGC is really struggling with technical difficulties in their coverage. It was almost non-stop today. I find that equally as annoying.
They call it silly season for a reason, I suppose.
the golf channel totally gets away from what they promise you, headlines = phil, what we got to see of him = nil, last week they advertised the wie thing, i saw her hit ONE shot in the first day of coverage, they need to do that better
That's because she had to play most of her shots from areas that were out of the range of the cameras....
You guys need to lighten up. This is the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic. Bob Hope was about entertainment and always was about that. The golf is secondary.
For at least 2 (Bob Hope and Pebble) tournaments in the year, the focus is first on the celebrities, and then on the final day, about the golf. People generally want to see George Lopez and Bill Murray far more than Scott Verplank (as an example). This tourny is mostly for fun, and the pro's know it. They play in it, because they get to meet and play golf with some fun people and also pickup a nice paycheck in the process.
Lighten Up folks, you're scaring me away from this site.
How many golf events are there in a given PGA ? And of these there are 2 where celebrities are given cameratime. I mean. We watch "perfect" golf in a bunch of turneys throughout the year, what damage does it do when in a few of them they show weekendplayers duffing their balls around ?. I kinda like to see how other everyday players play aswell.
I like the coverage of the celebrities on the course...but I got tired of seeing the same 3 or 4 celebs over and over. I saw more of Oscar de la Hoya than I did of anyone...and he's not that good. It seemed like every time I looked up at the tv, there he was. Are there only 5 celebs playing this year?
I don't think I've seen Ray Romano at all this year (not that I've seen every minute of coverage, mind you)...or Kevin James for that matter...is he playing this year? He and Ray are pretty good friends and they always try to beat each other since neither one is that great of a golfer. But they did show the leaderboard for the celebs and Ray was in the top 5...and yet, like I said, I haven't seen him at all.

You'll get enough Ray Romano and Kevin James in a few weeks at Pebble Beach to make crazy.
I'm just not a George Lopez fan. I never thought this TV show was funny and I get tired of seeing him. I know they are spread out over different courses, but it'd be nice to see a bigger variety of people instead of the same half dozen. Then again, there are TONS of people playing in this thing and I don't even know 3/4 of them.
There is definitely some fudging going on with the celeb's handicaps. No way Sammy Jackson is a 5, nor is Craig T Nelson. And there's no way Oscar De la Hoya is a 10. From what I saw of him, I'm willing to be he can't break 90 very often.
And one other thing that is annoying to me... and this is just me being picky. Weren't the amateurs playing from different tees than the pros? One Par 3 was playing about 210 for the pros, and 160-something for the ams I think. I only heard them say that once. The rest of the time, the screen always said 210 for the Amateur. Like I said.. just me being picky...
I haven't watched any of this year's event, and the main reason is George Lopez. He's just not entertaining to me at all. How does he deserve to inherit the mantle of host from Bob Hope? Bob Hope was a true star, someone who gave back to his fans and his country with his USO Tours and TV specials, etc. What has George Lopez done besides some off-color racist standup comedy and a mediocre sitcom?
i'll watch bits and pieces while i'm playing "Shot Online" on the computer. this event really never captures my attention until Sunday. i don't mind watching the celebs., some very interesting swings. sometimes, it's hard too tell who's, who, with all the bouncing from course to course.
I thought the same thing when I heard Lopez was named the permanent host of the Hope. Obviously, there's not another Bob Hope type out there but from what I've seen it appears that Lopez is trying to turn this event into the Crummy Comedy Celebrity/CEO Classic. I'm not sure Bob would approve.
I've watched very little of it so far this year and I generally don't mind the whole celeb thing, but from what I've seen they have really tilted quite a bit in that direction.
is it me or is nick faldo ALWAYS stareing at kelly tillman? I mean geez he's practically undressing her with his eyes the whole time....look at the camera man...the camera....
