I think Phil is the toughest player to guage week in and week out, at any point in the season. He could have a poor performance this week, and then get hot and win the next two events. I think that's indicative of how he plays, how he's always played... not really an indication of his desire imo.
Phil claims he has lost 20-25 pounds, and then put back 10-15 pounds of muscle, for a net loss of 10 pounds. Did anyone actually notice that he seems more fit and muscular looking? I wasn't quite sure whether I am buying his story myself, after watching him (on TV) for a couple of shots. I think he is perhaps a little thinner, but other than that he didn't look or move like much has changed. BTW, he should complete his transformation with a new haircut, and some better clothing: I am not saying that to be a jerk: I think it would show himself and his competition that he means business this year.
I thought he looked thinner... not sure I want as good a look as I'd need to tell if he's more muscular.
They said that he has been working out and has lost 20-25 lbs and put on about 10-15 lbs of muscle? Sorry I don't see it. Still looks like the same old Phil to me.
I agree on the haircut comment. Dude needs a haircut bad. But the clothes? Maybe I just don't pay enough attention to what people are wearing, but I didn't notice anything that bad.
As for the weight, I thought he looked a little slimmer, but not much. My biggest curiosity with him this year is his driving. Will he be able to hit fairways or at least keep it close? When he won his first Major at the Masters he commented on how easy the game was when you hit fairways, but then has since decided that Tiger's method of bomb it and take your chances is better. I disagree, but then again, I'm not worth millions playing on the PGA Tour.
Phil's appearance especially haircut is reminscent of 'Gordon Gekko' as played by Michael Douglas in "Wall Street". Actually Phil did make an appearance on the real Wall Street to ceremonially ring the bell to open the New York Stock Exchange.

Even if Phil took roids, it would be impossible to put 15pounds of muscle in 4 months. I train with guys that shoot up and they would consider 10pounds in one year a great success. He has leaned out though...but the stuff about him putting 15 pounds of muscle must be his personal trainer telling him porkies just to justify the $$$ he is charging Phil
He's def. lost some weight, and maybe leaned up a bit, but by no means put on 15lbs of muscle. It looked like he had a decent first outting, but it always seems the critics are always out to get him if he's not in contention for winning. He's also playing the new driver (at least that's what I thought I saw) which maybe contributing to some of his lost tee shots. It was funny to hear the comments Faldo was making when the head of the X-tour came off after some Celeb's tee shot.

That's a good point and maybe the way they described it was just awkward, because if you think about it it doesn't really make sense to say that you added and subtracted weight simultaneously, if you know what I mean. My guess is that he lost a bit and firmed up some of what was left.
