How Tuff is the South Course?

Let's see, 7,550 yrds vs. 6800 yrds.

Also, only 2 players among the top 50 are playing the south course....the rest are on the north course.

Ouch.

The South has been the tougher of the two since they renovated it to get the '08 US Open. I dunno the scoring differential this year, but last year it was something like 4.5 shots harder than the North.

On the XM Radio broadcast, at one point they said the average on the North was 68 and that the average on the South was at least 4 shots higher.

I am actually surprised they score so well on the North Course. Based on the tv coverage yesterday, that course, at least the fairways, look to be in TERRIBLE condition. All burned out and hardpan. Let's just say, the North Course didn't present itself well.

public vs. private, ^^ biggest difference there, and its been so hot there, players like that, the south looks tough, look what it did to mickelson and vijay, although mickelson has lost most if not all of his game

Aren't they both public courses?

Also, someone mentioned the condition of the courses, and yes, they look awful on TV. On the broadcast, they mentioned the fact that it's been extremely cold there lately, and there have been several frost delays at Torrey Pines.

I believe both are owned by the city of San Diego, making them both public courses.

Yeah, they're both public. They're actually part of the California State Park system.

It's been very dry, and cold and windy too. We've had frost in the mornings which hasn't helped the fairways much.
