I was wondering how to become a class A PGA Professional. I will be attending OSU and do they have classes there or do you have to go to Q-School? This is my backup in case I am not good enough to be on the tour.
Two ways... You can go to school where there is a PGM program, Professional Golf Management, or do it on your own through the PGA of America. It is easier and I believe you will learn more in the classroom setting then doing it on your own. You have to be associated with a club as well. There are books you have to buy, points you have to gain through doing certain tasts like running tournaments and such... Best thing I would say is to go to PGA.com and read about it. It is awesome to have on a resume, even if yu do not want to be a head pro.
Also, you must pass a PAT (players ability test). Pretty much 76 and 77 for the 36 holes.
There are 3 stages, The first being the most difficult... This is the weeding out process. 50% of people that apply to become PGA Professionals, dont finish the first section! After you get past the first, it is a breeze!
I know that you've gone through all of this so do you know if OSU has the PGM program? How do I get accositated with a club? What are some of the things you learn in the classes? Going through all of this and knowing that you know a lot what training aids work and which ones don't? Do you make average pay (you don't have to be specific just above or below average).
You said you wanted to answer questions lol so I gave you a long list. Thanks for you help so far.

OSU does not have a PGM program...I think the closest one to you is Ferris State University in Big Rapids Michigan
k i still got all those other questions lol. On PGA.com it says that a Head Professional doesn't actually teach the people they just supervise is this true? If that's the case then I probably want to become a teaching professional (what is the difference). But the head professional at my golf course is the one thats giving me lessons so i'm confused.

All of the Head Professionals I know are teachers??? Most courses have more than 1 teacher, but the Head almost ALWAYS teaches
what does the head professional do that the teaching pro doesn't?
Every golf course is different...Some courses have a "director of golf" and then a teaching pro...or some have a head pro and an assistant...Some have director of golf, head pro and an assistant pro, some have 2 heads and 3 assistants....Every course is different...If you are PGA Class A certified you can do pretty much any of them no problem
BTM-PGA you still haven't answered my whole list up there lol. I would like to have a lot of time to play golf, teach golf, and to enter tournaments which job would be the best for that? Director of golf, teaching pro, or head pro?

It honestly depends on what course you get with. Some get to play NO golf, and are constantly doing things, and some are very tournamented oriented. It is all up to the owner of the course, and how much value he has in you playing, teaching, or whatever. I would talk to as many pro's as possible, but most will tell you, that they do not get to play golf very much. The best way to play golf, is stay out of the golf industry!
??? lol that kind of ruins the point... i want to do what i love for a living. I know that you get to play golf a lot Nike so what do u do for a living (are you a Nike Rep? lol). It doesn't necessarily have to be tourny golf but i would just want to play any kind of golf.

ahh, well maybe the Nationwide Tour is a more realistic goal. It payes good money and I would be playing golf which is what I really want to do. What is this road? and does OSU have classes for this or is this strictly through Q-School (Can someone please explain exactly what Q-School is. I know the basics but I want deeper information).

Seriously...the best thing you can do in college is major in business or something, and try and make the golf team...If you can't make the golf team, your hopes of becoming a PGA tour player, or any player on ANY tour, are slim to none...The Canadian tour is lower than the nationwide, and my friend Lee Williamson and was an All American at Purdue and was ranked 12 in the world for amatuers, and he is still on the Canadian Tour trying to get on the Nationwide, and PGA......
