1st of the year, and at the perfect time in the golf year.
Same, beautiful coarse everytime.
For completely subjective reasons, it somehow seems like the most prestigious major to me.
1) Masters (big seperation between #2)
2) British Open (really close to #3)
3) U.S Open
4) PGA Championship (is this really a major? :p)
Masters is the most presitgious (sp?) and I love the course. As others have said, its at the time of the year where you really start getting the golf bug again.
For me, there is no "best." The Masters, U.S. Open, and Open Championship are all pretty special in their own ways. I agree with Matt_Monty...does the PGA really deserve major status?
The US Open is the most unpredictable, and the most fun to watch. I'll never forget Retief Goosen's putting display in 2004. The best players in the world looked stupid on those greens, and he was so calm it was unreal.

The PGA usually has by far the strongest field, statistically, out of any tournament in the world. Usually something like 98-99 out of the top 100 ranked players compete in this event.
So, yeah, it deserves major status just for having the strongest field.
The Masters has the weakest field, what with all those old champions taking up space, and a small field to begin with. (How do you like Bob Goalby's chances this year?). The US Open frequently has a whole bunch of sectional qualifiers and amateurs who have virtually no chance to even make the cut; similar situation with the British. The PGA lets a few club pros in each year, but they go off early, and don't get in anyone's way.

Yeah, I know...for me it just doesn't have the "feel" of a Major. To me, it just kinda looks and feels like every other event on tour. The Masters works for me because of the tradition. The Open works for the same reason, and because I like seeing the different style of golf. The U.S. Open works because I like seeing these guys humbled. (God forbid they have to hit a ball from any kind of less-than-pristine lie...like the rest of us. )
I voted for The Master's. If the first real big one of the year and always has this hype. I love watching it on TV and knowing that it means so much to everyone playing. It's the most exciting for me.

Yes but don't they invite those top 98-99 golfers on purpose. The PGA is made to be "tough" from the beginning but the other majors are more enjoyable because the nobodies have a chance to win. Who had Ben Curtis winning the British?
