Wie's status in doubt for year's first major.

..... In case you are wondering, this doesn't refer to the Masters! Wie may have to sit out the first LPGA major (the Kraft Nabisco Championship) this year. Apparently her right wrist injury is still bothering her....

It's too bad. I was a big fan of hers but then her recent showings in all of those mens tournaments kind of made me think she should just stop it already. She's historically done well at the Kraft Nabisco and in LPGA events in general so I'd like to see what she could do against the women but I guess we may not see it.

I have been a fan of Wie from the start. She hits long and I think creates intimidation among the men - probably why they resent her being there. But with very poor showings as of late, the reality of the situations may be setting in. Perhaps it will be time for her to play more with the women and/or folks closer to her age. LPGA made that mistake by not granting her tour card. She brings immediate marketability and competition. With her in the mix, she will do as much for women's golf as Tiger for men's.

There is no guy that is afraid of her because of her length, maybe cory pavin (sp ?) Shes still very short compared to the men. they just know shes a side show and hasn't earned her spot out there , so she shouldn't be there.

I wonder how Nike feels about giving her $10 million? She has a lot of talent, but she has really gone about it the wrong way. Bad advice from her family, most likely. I think she is at the end of the curiosity phase; people need to see her be competitive at some level.

Only time will tell.

Well, I am a fan of Wie too.. she has great talent but have much room for improvement...

With her past attempts at the men's event, i think she should just stop doing this.... yea, maybe wrong advice. She should just go back and focus on winning on the LPGA.

She now needs to get her "brand" back....

I agree. She still is young. She can still dominate the LPGA Tour. Who knows? Maybe one day, she can compete with the men.

As a fan, I really want her to show us what she can do on the LPGA Tour first. I know she's placed high in many events. I think it's time to show us she can win.

I am a fan of Michelle's as well and I'd like to see her do well. I wonder if her wrist is hurting as badly as her game? I think Michelle would benefit from a few months of instruction from a top teacher and easing back into play. I would suggest that she play some mini tour events to get her confidence up, but she would be feeling far too much pressure to win those I think. Whether she plays with men or women, I'd just like to see her get her game together.

Michelle Wie to skip LPGA's 1st major

It's official now:

RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. — Michelle Wie will not play the Kraft Nabisco Championship next week while she recovers from a wrist injury, the first LPGA Tour major championship she has missed in two years.

Wie injured her right wrist during a fall last month.

"While the rehabilitation of her wrist is on schedule, Michelle wants to make sure she gives fans everything she can the next time she steps on the course," said Jesse Derris of Ken Sunshine Consultants, a public relations firm the Wie family has hired to handle press inquiries. "She's not there yet." ..........

If an LPGA player's hadn't missed an LPGA cut since 2003 while attending high school and had not finished any worse than a 26rd place in two years (including seven majors), would you be talking about how bad her game is? I think not. Of course, there are all those folks who say a certain player is overrated and doesn't deserve the accolades, but if you didn't hear the name Michelle Wie associated with those stats you would be praising that player for doing such a great job. Strangely enough, whatever Michelle does is not good enough to get priase for her accomplishments, just putdowns because for some reason people seem to expect more of her even though she has already accomplished more than any other 17 year old female has ever accomplished and broken numerous LPGA records.

My suggestion is to play on the women's tour and have some of the women's best players tutor her. Have her gain the knowledge to win, then transition to the men's tournament.

My $.02.

Regards,
Mark

JudD, you are right there. On the LPGA Tour, she has actually had a great amoun tof success. If you think how many top 5's she has, it's pretty incredible, especially when you think. She's only 17!

I really have nothing against her competing against the men. I guess last year just gave me the impression that now is not the time.

I think she should go on the LPGA Tour, keep doing what she's been doing (which has been great) but get some wins under her belt, too.

JudD, I have to say that I agree to some extent. I'm looking at Michelle's game and how it has progressed over the past few years. I just don't see the progress, and it appears to me that she has actually regressed. Again, I don't have numbers to prove it, just watching her play over the past couple years. Given her youth, I think she has tremendous upside and would like to see her develop her talent.
