Spitting Spaniard Garcia risks possible fine at Doral

This is pretty bad! His explanation (bold) is hilarious, in a sad way. Sometimes all you can do is laugh. This reminds me of Pat Perez 'flipping the bird' to either his golf-ball or the cup (I forgot) during a tournament a few years ago.....

MIAMI, March 24 - Spaniard Sergio Garcia faces a possible fine after spitting into the bottom of the cup on the 13th green during the WGC-CA Championship third round on Saturday.

The 27-year-old vented his frustration after three-putting for bogey on the par-three hole on his way to a one-under-par 71.

"I just missed that putt and wasn't too happy," Garcia told NBC Sports television, referring to his missed par putt there from seven feet.

"But it (the spit) did go in the middle (of the hole) and wasn't going to affect anyone else. If it did, I would have wiped it off."

........

PGA Tour officials said no decision had been made as to whether the Spaniard would be penalised for the incident. Garcia offered no further comment about it to reporters after his round.

I want to see every shot he makes because even his bad ones are better than Ben Crane, Ben Curtis, Bart Bryant, Boo Weekly's, etc etc good ones. To hate Tiger is to hate Golf. I'm sure that if we were in the times of Bobby Jones the same people would be saying they hate Bobby Jones. Just like the majority of Jack's Playing carreer he was not well liked. I want to see the best and you cant argue with Tiger's record he is the best that ever was.
That's what I was wondering a few moments ago as I read posts. I wondered if the same people doing all the Tiger-hating had the same opinion when Jack or Arnie was getting all the coverage? I wonder if they would be complaining if Jack was playing in his prime now and was getting all the coverage. Somehow I doubt it.

As others have said, watching Tiger is like watching a force of nature that doesn't come around very often and any chance I get to watch him, I'll take. Now, as a person? I'm not too enamored of Tiger, but I don't know the man and don't have any real basis other than my impression of him. As a lover of golf, I can't imagine saying that I don't want to see Tiger, but would rather watch someone else. Who in the world is going to play golf like Tiger? Oh, by the way, I've seen quite a bit of other players while watching this weekend. But then opinions don't have to be based on fact, do they?

Oh, the announcers get on my nerves with their ingratiating worship of Tiger without calling him on things he needs to be called on. Tiger doesn't have the same impregnable focus that he used to have while in contention in my book, but I can't get my hands on the data to determine whether there's anything to my theory or not. The PGA won't give it up and I can't find it anywhere else :(.

They are only thinking about fining him? If they fine Garcia, why aren't they fining Weekly? If spitting where other players have to play their balls is fine worthy, that should be the case for all players.

Johnny Miller said a little bit ago that Tiger was the greatest putter? What do we think of that? If Tiger were the greatest putter, I don't think any other player would have a chance at ever winning. I think he loses more because of his putting than anything else. I would say he is the best at recovering from lousy tee shots than anyone I have seen, but I haven't seen many of the greats.

What sort of data would you use to determine that?

Where did he spit?...specifically, I mean.

I'd say Tiger's got Miller convinced. I doubt I'd agree that he's the greatest (not sure if anyone is the greatest) but he's certainly one of them. He has bad stretches, like at the Palmer last week, but he makes a lot of putts that really count. Doesn't leave many short, makes a lot of 'em coming back. His aggressive putting style cost him early in his PGA career, and still does at times...he hits plenty of putts through the break...but I'd say his putting style has netted him more birdies than bogies. Maybe not the best, but one of them, imo.

One thing I would do is take a look at final round scorecards of tourneys when he was in contention (at or near the lead). You know where I could find that? I can get back to 2004 online, but haven't been able to go back as far as I would need to.

I would have to agree that he is one of, if not, the best consistent pressure putter I have seen other than Jack. Again, I haven't seen many of the greats, but when he is dialed in, there certainly isn't anyone better when the heat is on. At least, that was my experience of Tiger. That hasn't been the case quite as consistently as it had been in my opinion as you already know :).

Woods wins it with a conservative 'double layup' bogey at the par 4 18th hole (-10).

Wetterich gets a well-desrerved solo second place (-8).

Congratulations!

Ah cool, was it good?

I have my chance to see Tiger this year sometime when he is over the pond in the UK.

Johnny Miller is the best

I love Johnny Miller. He and Rog, along with Nantz are the best. If he says Tiger is the best putter I would think he is probably not far from the truth.

Johnny Miller has chilled out in the last couple years.......Which I dislike....I use to love when he spoke his mind but you cant say anything on the PGA tour without a thousand people talking down upon you......Johnny Miller needs to open up again and say whats on his mind....a opinion I use to respect highly

Johnny used to be very critical of Tiger and how he didn't think he would hold up in the long. More likely he was worried that he would have to commentate about someone that was better than he was. There for a while, no one ever hit a shot better than Johnny did in his day, at least according to him. I think he finally realized that these guys play at a different level than he did. Don't get me wrong, he was a **** of an iron player and steely competitor and great in his day, but you notice that he doesn't play anymore...
