WGC CA-Doral Championship Talk (Possible Spoilers)

http://www.worldgolfchampionships.com/tournaments/r473/

I thought I would start an ‘official thread’ to discuss this tournament. There is an excellent field. Who do you think will win?

I will pick Vijay.

hard to pick against Tiger, especially after his final 3 hole meltdown at Bay Hill - he usually comes back strong (read as angry/hungry - remember what he did to Stephen Ames when Stephen made embarrassing or irritating comments regarding Tiger?)

For those that have played all of the courses at Doral, am I the only one that thing the Blue course is over rated? I think the Great White is much more fun. Actually, I thought the Red course was more interesting also.

Greetings ...

Hmmmmm -- I was sleeping on the job and somebody beat me to starting a CA-Doral thread. Oh, Well! Let me go ahead and add my 2-cents worth.

If any administrators/moderators read this, may I suggest that you change the tilte of this particular discussion thread to WGC CA-Doral Championship Talk (Possible Spoilers) - This would be out of courtesy to anyone watching on a delayed basis via Tivo, VideoTape, DVD or whatever.

WHAT: The CA-Championship at Doral - A World Golf Championship
WHEN: March 22-25
WHERE: Doral Golf Resort and Spa, Greater Miami Florida area
TV: Golf Channel (Thurs-Fri); NBC (Sat-Sun)

Total Purse: $8,000,000
1st Prize: $1,350,000

FORMERLY KNOWN AS: American Express Championship - another WGC event!
REPLACING: The Doral Open (1962-2006), last played as the Ford Championship at Doral

ON THE NET ...
PGA Tour's Official Site
European Tour's Official Site
CA Championship at Doral - Media Links, Purse Info ... courtesy of yours truly!

You can read the Official CA-Doral Media Guide -- It's an Adobe Shockwave-Flash presentation, and you can print out an individual page. If you have print-to-PDF capability, you can save pages that way.

Check out the CA-Doral TV Times -- particularly the SUNDAY Times on NBC, which are 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM EDT.

I am sure that one reason for an end time of 7:00 PM is to be going off right before prime time, which could translate in better TV ratings. But ending at 7:00 PM raises a very significant issue.

Remember the Honda Classic on March 4th, a week before we went to Daylight Savings Time? Of course you do! Regulation play ended just after 6:00 PM with three players tied for first. A sudden-death playoff ensued, but by about 6:25 PM, darkness halted play after one hole, and everyone had to come back Monday Morning to sort things out.

OK - Suppose on Sunday March 25th, around or just after 7:00 PM, regulation play is ended, and we've got two-or-more tied for first. By then, we may have enough daylight for two holes, maybe three. However, if darkness intervenes before the Issue of the Championship Winner is settled - guess what? Yup! Be back at Doral bright and early Monday Morning.

OUCH!

Oh, Well - Enjoy the Golf!

Thanx-A-Lot, Frank-0-Sport

I can't wait. Tiger tees off at 11:30 and I'll be in the gallery. I love following El Tigre.

I will have to go with Tiger. He's back to back champ. It's really hard to go against him. Mickelson might make a run at it as well.

Greetings ...

Ahh, you ask who am I watching out for this week?

Neither Doral or Phil Mickelson are under Ford sponsorship now, so wouldn't it be ironic if Lefty won.

Vijay Singh, Henrik Stenson, Charles Howell III, Luke Donald and Geoff Ogilvy are other possibilities.

Why not Tiger? He's the prohibitive favorite, so why choose him again, so to speak?

Check out Nothing Worldly About The WGC, written by Bill Nichols at DallasNews.Com.

Nichols makes one slight error RE Kevin Stadler's qualification. Yes, Stadler was on the Nationwide Tour in 2006. But his WGC qualification is a result of being 2nd on the Australasian Tour, helped in a huge way by his Johnnie Walker Classic victory.

Thanx-A-Lot and Enjoy,
Frank-0-Sport

I'm going to have to go with Vijay as well after his performance last week...even though I didn't like that mini meltdown coming home. Tiger is the big time favorite considering his record at Doral and in this event. I hope he's in contention come Sunday, with someone in their tight with him to see how he performs.

Looks like Tiger still doesn't have his putting woes straightened out. Apparently he's let a few opportunities for Birdie go by. Wouldn't you know it though, he's still within two shots of the lead. I can't wait for Sunday!

I'm rooting for Joe Durant (home town boy). He usually starts slow each year, but I'm hoping he'll get it in gear early this time.

Greetings ....

Once Again, the Question is -- Who the Henrik is Stenson.

Answer -- We're finding out now that he's REALLY good!

Thanks to admin-moderators for title change.

Henrik Stenson is really a name to look out for in the future, and i dont think its unthinkable that he might get a major this year.

So, can you give us a first hand account of the days events?

He started out strong last year. Kind of faded mid year and put his foot on the gas just before the Ryder cup, and he is on a high ever since.

Well I only followed Tiger and some of Sergio. I can't really give a first hand account of any other players.

The weather was bad. Windy and Soggy Conditions. Tiger wasn't putting well again and was frustrated most of the day. Sergio played well in the holes I did see him. He looks like a good pick for this tournament if his putting holds up.

Today I'll be following some more people so I can give a better outlook.
