Although currently it seems he's known more for being a jerk to Ben Crane, I think this smooth South African's game will do the talking for him in years to come.
I don't remember the tournament, but my first recollection of Rory was watching him take a monster rip to get his ball out of some serious spinach, him being able to hit it over a tree and STILL getting it to check on the green! (I wish I would have recorded that one!)
In my opinion, he owns one of the most powerful looking swings on tour, is a pretty decent ball striker and a great putter. He's played well so far this year and with his showing at Wachovia among the world's best players perhaps his first win in a major isn't too far off. Speaking of Wachovia.....did anyone catch Sabb reminding Tiger who had the honor on the tee box after Tiger had bogeyed the previous hole? Kinda cool!
Are there any others who agree with me that Rory is more than the impatient, cocky guy he's percieved to be? Not that he ISN'T those things..... just that those traits don't nullify his greatness as a golfer.
I like Rory, especially since Gary Player thinks highly of him. Plus he made his american home in the Great State of Texas, what is not to like about him.
He is having a good year so far. I like him too. He seems a little different than the average tour pro. He has my vote for worst dresser on the tour (of those pro's who don't actually try to be the worst dresser), but I actually like seeing that. There is enough 'average' on the PGA tour! I like watching his 'all out' swing also, although I wouldn't dare to try copy it.
Well, the reason he wore camouflage pants was to support a charity that provides assistance to families of fallen soldiers, I could overlook the choice of clothes. I like the way that he plays, seems to have more mental fortitude than most of the guys out there. The one weakness I can see is how repeatable that swing of his can be under pressure situations.
Rory plays with total passion and is fun to watch unlike alot of those ' make the cut ' grinders. He plays fearless golf and has some serious talent.
It was fun watching him make that move at the Masters and I was pulling for him ( or Goosen ) to pull it off.
Sabbatini was not out of line with the Crane incident. Someone had to do something about that pathetic slow play ... so kudos to him. Nothing else seemed to ever work with those guys.
Rory Sabbatini is alright in my book. I hope he wins alot
I don't particularly like him but I did like what he did to Ben Crane. Those two were put on the clock a couple of times b/c of Crane and he just wanted to make sure he wasn't penalized b/c of slow play. Immature?...maybe - but he made a point and pace of play became a talked about issue. He sure can play though. I think his best days are ahead of him.
I respect him as a golfer but will likely never forgive him for how immature he was with Ben Crane.
As a Rory fan I felt bad that the incident occurred (especially since Ben Crane seems like a really nice guy) but who hasn't been peaved at a slow poke player? I fully sympathized with Rory's frustration. And although he received a lot of grief from the gallery and media that day, he did what most of us would LIKE to do but don't have the guts to do - another example of Sabb's go-for-broke style. Be honest----wouldn't you rather be in Rory's foursome???
Also, him wearing the camo gear to support our troops and their families was a total class act. I think it shows more about his true character than does his feelings on slow play.
I think Rory may pass Sergio as "most hated" guy on Tour. A poll in SI indicated not many like him very much. Frankly, i don't like the guy either. Although not sure if it is as bad as my dislike for Sergio.
big game, bigger mouth. Usually when its out of proportion as much as in rorys case the ground quickly falls out from under you. Talks a little pass his pay grade for my liking. He is interesting to watch though.
Im not a huge tiger fan but I'm just waiting for Tiger to realize Rory is sniffing around his turf and rip him to shreds on the course. I would love to see final round rory and tiger. Remember vijay's caddies hat?? "tiger who?" Tiger plays best when has too.
