Overlooked Facts on O'Hair's Gamble
While the media has mentioned that Sean O'Hair cost himself over $700,000 for his 7-5 finish, here's some other things that were not mentioned for some reason.
1. Since O'Hair was ranked about 85th in the world rankings, a 2nd place finish may have given him enough world rankings points to earn exemptions into the 2007 U.S. Open and British Open. I believe he is not exempt in either event. I think he's exempt for the PGA.
2. The $700,000 lost and potential world rankings points lost could cost him a bid for the 2008 Masters.
It is easy for Mickelson to gamble and go for the win when he has exmptions to almost every event. It is not so easy when someone like O'Hair who doesn't have exemptions to majors and WGC events makes that gamble for the win.
