Pros can't dress themselves

There's a fashionable trend on PGA Tour : Golf : Ventura County Star

Quote:
No one, not even Tiger Woods, can tell you how he will perform in the 2008 U.S. Open at Torrey Pines.

But Doug Reed, the director of apparel at Nike Golf, can tell you today what shirts Woods will be wearing at the 2008 U.S.Open.

That's because Nike scripts every outfit Woods will wear at golf's major championships and it does so at least a year ahead of time.
Tiger isn't the only one.

Quote:
Because it's been such a success for Nike, other major golf apparel manufacturers, such as adidas and Dunning, have gotten into the act — scripting players such as Sergio Garcia, Zach Johnson, Justin Rose, Paula Creamer and Natalie Gulbis.
A little information on Sergio Garcia's style.

Quote:
Tiss Dahan, director of global apparel for adidas Golf, said Garcia wants a lot of color in the clothing they script for him.

"Sergio likes color and he wants to be colorful," Dahan said. "He's about a lot of bright color."

Tiger was wearing a lot of black clothing at The Open and it looked hideously hot. I believe I would have requested something more reflective to the sun's rays.

I'll take a sponsorship, and I'll even let them dress me. Have you seen the prices of some of the clothes they wear?? My golf shirts come from Kohl's, Walmart, and sometimes the sale rack at Edwin Watts.

I really enjoy the attire the "old school" guys wore. Guys like Bobby Jones and Walter Hagen. I wish I could dress like that and play golf but I'd feel too self-conscious.

I do wear an old style hat I don't what you call them. Dockers makes them and they look cira 1910-1935. That is my retro look for some reason they are making them again. I got 2 of them from JC Penny. Now as far as knickers they would be cool too but I'm afraid that I would get laughed at lol..................

Re: Pros can't dress themselves

While it is fun to make fun of the outlandish end of the spectrum among the pros, do an unscientific poll yourself this weekend. When you're in the pro shop this weekend, or on the first tee, or as you're going around the course, make some observations.

You really believe this issue is confined to the highest levels of the game?

Golf fashion is second only to military intelligence as the all-time best oxymoron in the english language.

Re: Pros can't dress themselves

I have a friend (woman) who has several (many!) old-fashioned outfits with the knickers and knee socks and hat. She's a character - but also a fantastic driver (she plays from the white tees while the rest of us are using the red's).

Between the outfits and the back-east accent, she's definitely noticed out here in the Pacific NW!!
