i've noticed that his star pupils aren't really doing that well in terms of winning big tournaments. is he overrated, or are the pupils not of star proportions? might he even be past his prime as an instructor? has new equipment clashed with his swing ideas? is he cutting himself too thin with articles, dvds, clinics etc.? or am I overanalyzing the situation?
Kind of hard to quantify who the absolute best teachers are. Other than 100 Top Teaching Pro lists - which are even more subjective than Best Courses list - it's next to impossible.
But honestly, who cares....the only teaching pro I care about is my own. And let me tell you, he's been in a slump for years.
Like all coaches. Some are good for some and not for others. His teaching methods are different from a say a Butch Harmon, but let's face it his reputation speaks for itself.

His reputation does speak for itself but I think the OP brings up a good point. I don't doubt that a guy like Butch Harmon is a good teacher but there's also that argument about Greg Norman or Tiger Woods reaching #1 no matter who their coach was. The same can be said for David Leadbetter. Guys like Charles Howell III or Justin Rose would be good no matter who their teacher was but the one thing you see is that Leadbetter's students don't seem to be doing all that great right now.
then you look at aaron baddeley. he left leadbetter and wins a couple of times. michelle wie was always said to have a beautiful swing but now a days, it seems she's so mechanical. i saw her out on the practice range one day and she really seems to over think things.
then again, charles howell iii left leadbetter, came back and won but he hasn't been very consistent, either. is ernie els still with leadbetter?
