Qualifying for the Open at Carnoustie

Just been watching Golf night, Some of the groups had to replay the 14th after finishing there round due to the pin position being to hard.

That is very harsh on the few who made par or bogey.

The person who chose the green position actualy placed it on a slope which resulted in most players scoring double bogeyl, one player even 5 putted.

How mad is that!

Opinions please.

Re: Qualifying for the Open at Carnoustie

This was the Monday event at Sunningdale's Old Course. Pretty ridiculous setup. One guy four putted from two feet!

Martin Kippax, the R&A’s championship chairman, set up the pins at Sunningdale.

Which does not bode well for the Open Championship....

I'm not sure if that's a big deal. Everyone had to play the hole. It's not like they changed it in the middle of the round. Its kinda like playing a tournament on terrible greens....everyone has to putt on them.

Actually, they did change the hole location in the middle of the round.

That's how bad it was.

Officially outrageous - Golfweek article by Alistair Tait

It is simply absurd to set a pin that is unplayable at a major championship qualifier. No excuse for it.

They did change it after a lot of people had played it and others had not though and made them replay it

Re: Qualifying for the Open at Carnoustie

haha...yeah that's a different story.

I agree with Bland. It's not rocket science to do the pins. I changed pins everyday for almost two years......its easy. The problem is that you get Superintendents and people changing cups that do not play the game, therfore don't know what's playable or unplayable.
