Re: 2007 British Open (Open Championship) Discussion
I think that iron off the 18th tee in regulation killed Sergio. If he had a two shot lead i like the play. But he left himself almost 250 yards for his second shot and you're asking for bogey. Take your drvier and aim left side and if it goes left, you probably get a good lie in the rough like he did in the playoff.

Sergio played that hole the same way on Saturday (not sure about Thursday and Friday) and made par. As a matter of fact, he made par there four of the five times he played it. Just not the one time he really needed it. If he'd hit driver and put it in the Burn, everyone would have criticized him for the play. He did what he thought was best - it just didn't work out. Hats off to Paddy....
Re: 2007 British Open (Open Championship) Discussion
I almost felt bad for Sergio, and then I heard his press conference and he reminded me why he's the 2nd most disliked player on Tour (next to Sabbatini). The same man that whined about Tiger Woods getting breaks started opening his stupid yap again, blaming the 10 minute wait on 18 for his bogey, and crying that the shot on 16 would go in the hole for other players, but bounces 20 feet away for him. Cry me a river Sergio, you stupid jerk. Go spit in another cup.

Ouch!
Whether are not you like the guy or not...must you call him names? He played a good game, when you're shooting those scores then I guess you'd have the right to criticize, or make snotty comments. Sorry, but none of those players that are playing on the PGA tour are perfect. Heck I've heard Tiger curse like a truck driver. Just my two cents.

That would have been an even worse play than hitting his iron! There is not a vast amount of room down the left. If you aim down the left and over draw it, you have a good chance of coming to grief.

Heck yeah i'll call him names. He's a baby. Instead of sucking up and admitting he made some mistakes, he starts making excuses. To me, that is totally immature. I can understand him doing it when he was 22. But the guy is 27. Grow up. Tiger may curse like a truck driver, but he'll blame himself for the mistake, not say "Well, i had to wait 15 minutes for the slow play. That's why i hit it bad."
And no, he did not play a good game. He had a 3-shot lead and shot a 73 when the conditions were ripe for scoring. Sure, he made some good shots here and there, but overall, he gave the tournament away.
