Gulbis Swing

Pretty lady, ugly swing. You just can't have it all. Got my latest issue of Golf World and they had some pictures that show her dip, chicken wing and broken down left wrist. The fact someone can actually win with that move gives all golfers hope!!

Re: Gulbis Swing

This is a classic bittersweet, she's nice to look at and watch, but that swing is almost painful to watch.

If it works!

Frankly, I love the unorthodox swings. It makes golf more interesting.

Re: Gulbis Swing

I don't think it's so bad. Isn't she known as one of the best ball strikers? Butch Harmon says she's the most flexible player he's ever worked with.

Watching her putt, now that's painful.........

Ball Striking

Here are the stats from the LPGA website:

ROUNDS UNDER PAR: 18/45 (T28) DRIVING ACCURACY: 0.719 (37)
BIRDIES: 139 (T35) SAND SAVES: 0.250 (T145)
EAGLES: 1 (T59) PUTTS PER GREEN: 1.77 (T3)
GIR: 0.638 (54) DRIVING AVERAGE: 248.0 (T83)

I did not realize she was such an effective putter--tied for third. Guess that makes sense though.

Re: Gulbis Swing

those putting stats are deceiving. she may not three putt very often, but she always misses fairly short, very makable putts within birdie range.

Reminds me of Johnny Miller saying "Craig Parry has a swing that belongs to a 15 handicapper, and if Ben Hogan saw it he would puke". Which became even more hilarious a few minutes later when he holed out from 176 yards with a 6 iron to win the Doral Championship in a playoff.

Who cares what her swing loooks like? She is able to repeat it consistently, and that's all that counts.

Re: Gulbis Swing

I love watching pro's with bad swings! 'Cause if they can hit the ball that well with that swing, then there's hope that I can get lower scores

The interesting thing is that while the entire swing may be a little unorthodox, there's key parts that they are getting right. They all stay in control, not over-swinging the club, and focus on solid contact.

Re: Gulbis Swing

There's no bad swings, only bad shots. Look at Jim Thorpe; my god, what would Johnny Miller say about that?

Re: Gulbis Swing

I love watching her play, but her swing is just painful to watch. It really cannot be good for her in the long term. I imagine she has a chiropractor on speed dial.

You gotta work on that. My wife knows what I think about NG, and she don't mind at all.

Man, am I a lucky guy!
