Is the time coming when the PGA of America might consider holding their event outside of the U.S.?
With half of the players in the majors, the World Golf Championships, etc., now being other than U.S. citizens, why should 3 of the 4 majors always be in the U.S.?
The PGA of America puts on the Ryder Cup in conjunction with the European Tour. Couldn't they collaborate on staging the PGA Championship in Europe, Australia, Asia, or South America? Maybe somewhere that's not 110 degrees?
The PGA will always be in the USA b/c it is in fact the The PGA of America - not Canada, or Spain, or England. It's an association based in America and the tournaments are played in America. There are tournaments outside the USA that the PGA recognizes (The Open Championship for instance), but it's an American thing. The Europeans have their tour - it's called The European Tour. The far east has their tour - it's called The Asian Tour. The Canadians have their tour - it's called The Canadian Tour. The United States has their tour and it's called The PGA. Got it?
I realize that all of these other regions of the globe have their own tour. My point is, should 3 of the 4 majors be staged in the U.S. forever, even though the number of American players in the majors has dropped drastically?
After the top three spots, there aren't many Americans ranked in the top 50 anymore.
"There is a reason why the US PGA Championship is considered a major and the reason it is thus is because Arnold Palmer and a journalist called Bob Drum sat down with a tray of cocktails one evening in the early 1960s and came up with the concept of the game's modern grand slam."
I would say to those who want it out side of the US to hold their own major. If the other tours were as popular, made as much money, drew the TV money that the PGA does, then they can decide where to play the majors. Why do all the top foreign players move to the US? Because they can make more money, play against the best, and because the PGA is the best tour.

Point of Information - the PGA Tour doesn't not run the US PGA. The PGA does. They are separate organizations, and have been since 1968.

Ernie Els lives in the Uk , Padriaig Harrington lives in the UK , Sergio Garcia lives in Europe and Henrik Stenson lives in Dubai so 4 out of the worlds top 10 players do not live in the US and bear in mind the ranking system is biased in favour of Tournaments played in the US. The PGA tour may well be the best tour in terms of money but for variety of golf it doesn't compare with the European tour. You seem to feel that money should be the prime motivator for the way golf is run but I feel this is deeply wrong we have a duty of care for our great game which transcends just money by way of example ask Jack Nicklaus what he thinks about US tour players who do not come to play in the Open becuase it is too far , if they could not earn large sumes of money playing in a nothing event somewhere in the States that week one wonders if they would feel . Surely we should all be seeking to grow golf into new areas such as China in just the same way as was done in the US by Harry Vardon in the early part of the 20th century and a major played in asia would surely help .
i would like to see a major be held anually in scotland as it was the birth place of golf and have some of the best courses and aslo because i am a scot
I know they're separate organizations - I'm saying is The PGA(the tournament) is run by The PGA of America....not the The PGA Tour. I know it sounds confusing, but apparently I wasn't clear enough. the point is, it's a United States thing and therefore held in the USA.
.....and no, Mexico is not part of the PGA. There are Mexican players who are on the PGA Tour.
They played in Mexico b/c they wanted to have a tournament there. There are tournaments outside the USA that the PGA recognizes and from where you can earn points. i.e., The Open Championship, The Canadian Open are 2 I can think of off the top of my head. Anyone else know of tournaments outside the USA where you can earn points on the PGA?
Its about time the pga championship was dropped as a major, and an other tournament elsewhere in the world promoted to replace it. Golf is getting to be a more global game (unless your davis love or phil mickelson) this would help develop and promote the game in say asia, australasia or even china.
I would say that you must be extremely cautious with a topic like this on a friendly golf forum like this. We all love golf regardless of what country we live in. Discussion about playing this wonderful game can be, and is enjoyed by all golfers. When you get into the area of USA vs whomever, you are bound to touch a nerve with Americans. The only thing that I love as much as my wife, children, family, and golf is........Being an American! I'm also a combat Vet, conservative, and God fearing. For those reasons, I don't like to get into these types of discussions. Just my 2 cents.....I mean no dis-respect. I sincerely hope I have not violated the forum rules.
