Presidents Cup

I love all these team events, it's some of the most exciting golf when you have two teams going head to head like they do in the Presidents and Ryder Cups. I really like the Presidents Cup...however, the other day I was thinking that it definetly seems like the Presidents Cup is set up just for the U.S. and is biased towards them (I'm from the U.S.) I mean, you have U.S. against the world...if the U.S. wins we look amazing because we've beaten, well, the world. If the International team wins, they don't look nearly as good because in theory, they should win because they have so many more players to choose from. Also, it seems to me that if you're a fan from outside the U.S., it would be tough to feel that connected to the Presidents Cup and your team, because you probably only have one player from your country, maybe a few more.

Maybe this didn't make any sense, but does anyone else have an opinion on this?

Re: Presidents Cup

I do see your point and it's a valid one, but you have to remember that we are from the USA and it's promoted here so of course it seems biased....it's supposed to. The Presidents Cup was set up b/c The Ryder Cup doesn't include any countries outside Europe or the UK. In Fact, it wasn't until the 70s(not quite sure when) that the RC allowed European players. Before that is was only players from the UK. We(USA) were always winning so Jack Nicklaus suggested that Europe be added to the UK team to make it more competitive. Eventually there were so many good International players on tour in the US and around the world, that someone, somewhere, decided that an event to include the International players was a good idea.....thus the Presidents Cup.
As far as feeling connected to the International Team goes...well, I'm from the USA so I'm not all that concerned about that. But since Europe is part of the Ryder Cup Team, often times there aren't members from a particular European country on the team. For instance, in the last RC, there were no Germans or French players on the team....in fact, I'm not sure if there were any Swiss players either and I think there was only one Scandinavian player on that team. So as you can see, it goes both ways.
I hope I was able to help you out there.

Re: Presidents Cup

I dont care for these team events at all.... they are boring and overhyped. Could you imagine a DiMarco- Zach Johnson pairing LOL ... I would rather watch an LPGA event

Re: Presidents Cup

I am not a big fan of the presidents cup. However the ryder cup always lives up to the hype. For emotion and excitement it is hard to beat and it brings europe a little closer together for a week.

Re: Presidents Cup

I think those events are great. I think it's fun to watch all these guys play different formats in a team setting. It's something different besides the same old stroke play tournaments.

Re: Presidents Cup

I really enjoy Presidents Cup and the Ryder Cup. I think there are too few match play events in on the tour. I love the strategy that goes into match play events.

Re: Presidents Cup

Not as much strategy in President's Cup as Ryder Cup. Almost everyone gets to play. I think they even have everyone play on one of the days. In addition, the captains consult each other for singles matchups.
