Here it is the Fedex Cup the accumulation of the year and the Golf channel or on line is the only way to view the tourney. The networks have deserted the sport.
The PGA has designed a tournament to where the leaders have such an advantage the number one sits out the first week with no pain and the lowest on the list cannot even get to the top tier by doing well. Look at Rich Beem who tied for 7th on the first week and is tied for second on Saturday of second week and he is already virtually eliminated from the rest of the events. The announcers sound like they are reading War and Peace for books on tape or spend time showing everything but the players hitting shots.
I am discussed with the whole thing. The PGA organizers are overpaid fools with no clue what the fans want.
Yeah, I hate premium cable channels and I have time today. I have sour grapes. There are four college football games on the basic cable and several bad movies.
It seems like to be a fan of golf takes a real commitment.
GA Tech is playing Notre Dame right now, so I'm sorry to say, I'm not real interested in the golf today. I'm an LSU fan, but I'm still cheering Tech on.
I don't see why you have a problem with the points leader having such an advantage over the others and the lower tier guys not having a chance to win. That's why there was a season-long FedEx Cup points competition. You're rewarded for the kind of year you've had, just like playoffs in other sports. Having everyone on the same level would defeat the purpose of having a points system, or having any of the FedEx Cup at all, for that matter.

I have a problem with the whole thing as in I don't understand the valuation system or anything about how it works...this system and idea is worse than the BCS!!!

I agree completely. It's a playoff, it's supposed to be tougher if you don't play well throughout the course of the year. Just like in any other sport, they are all essentially "seeded". The lowest point guys aren't going to make it every year, just like college basketball. btw, rich beem isn't anywhere near out of it, if he stays on the top of the leaderboard he will definitly make next weeks tourney. he has to be in the top 70 in points, and if he wins he'll probably end up at 45 or something close to it.

I hate to say it but I almost thought the way that the points started over was unfair. It gives guys who have been incosistent a better chance at moving up just for playing well in only the last 4 t.ments. Also, in reality, the points standings before the playoffs were probably a better picture of the players performance and consistency throughout the season than the restarted points showed. Tiger would still be on top if they maintained the regular season points standings rather than starting over. A guy like Steve Stricker could win over Tiger even if Tiger had a better season, as long as Stricker did well in the last 4 events.
They should go to a final 16 or 8 for the Tour Championship and go to 36 hole matches with only the last 18 on TV. Match play is what people really want. Yesterday, we saw a match play of Tiger vs Phil on some exciting holes and it was fantastic.
East Lake and Cog Hill are not "exciting" courses, so they need to play on courses with great risk/reward opportunities.
Yesterday was great for golf.
BTW...I also agree that the Golf Channel is not the way to go to push this sport forward.
I think a match play playoff system would be interesting. With the top money winners or points earners. At least that way you could really have the last few tournaments have the top few players in them, as opposed to the whole group. If Tiger or Phil had missed the cut at the first tournament wouldn't they have been eliminated? Even though they just had one bad week? You could have match play 2 days with the same opponent and then the best of that could move up to Sat. and Sun and then continue the next week until the final 2 guys duke it out against eachother.
I think we should just give it a shot. I'm sure they'll tweek a thing or two for the next year. Remember, this is still the first year they've done this, so like everything else there will be some kinks to iron out.
A Doctor was on the Sports Radio this morning and says that HGH is ruining Professional Golf. Humm maybe Gary Player knew what he was talking about. This Doctor wants to make it illegal to prescripe except for children with growth problems.
