Assuming you had the money they had...would you rather take $10M 30 years from now or $10M today on the premise that it could be $30M 30 years from now? I think I know the answer to that...
Which was precisely my point in my earlier email...it is all about money....and I have a hard time being sympathetic to Tiger or Phil when, in my opinion, this is the tail wagging the dog...When Tiger and Phil moaned about the length of the season, the Tour came up with this Fed-Ex Cup as a way to shorten it...well apparently they didn't get everything their way and now their beefing again....and I have an equally hard time getting excited about what is a poorly devised playoff scheme, that most people (Tour players included) don't understand which is then only compounded by a lack of support from the players themselves....

If I accept the prremise that these guys have the Midas touch and that 10 million in 30 years doesn't inspre them to play, then why bother playing in the playoffs at all. Go shoot commercials, play corporate events or bet the NFL. Do they feel that playing in this event is a drag on their earnings?...then go home and play with the dog...

Of course I would take 10 million today but if it is the deferral that has their undies in a bunch then give them the present value in cash today. I don't know the reasoning or the financing behind the annuity (the Champions Tour does the same thing with the Charles Schwab Cup champion) so its hard to get into the Tours head as to why they structured it this way. But I don't think the Tour has gotten a lot of mileage out of the publicity surrounding this event because, in my opinion, most of the publicity has been negative.

I don't have any problem with these guys (or anyone for that matter) making as much money as they do; and I will never be in the position to understand what its like to make $100 million a year. But the complaints I am hearing from these guys removes any doubt from my mind as to their level of selfishness...it seems to me that they are cannibalizing the very sport that gives them their celebrity...

I do enjoy your comments SuperTiger18....

Well said! I understand a guy taking time off to recover mentally and physically after a few weeks of the travel and stress of playing tournament golf. What is lost on me is to see a guy like Tiger say he needs the week off (Barclays) to recover mentally only to see him in NYC ringing the bell on the exchange and promoting the release of his new video game. All that publicity stuff has got to be mentally and physically tiresome so don't lie to the fans and say you need a break only to go out and use the time for promotion. Same thing for Phil...'balancing business, golf, and family' and then going to play in a corporate outing. I don't disagree with anything your post said and I too am not blind to the selfishness that the players have expressed.

You hit on one very important point...nothing about the FedEx Cup has been overly positive other than having Phil and Tiger battle it out on Monday. I'm sure Tim Finchem is scratching his head right about now and is trying to find a cure for serious heartburn.
