I was going to take the high road on this one, but I find that I must respond. You already broke the rules when you wrote that post - it was an insult to any women members. I wouldn't call you a chauvinist or misogynist - just not very funny.

The best defense against libel is the truth...imo, your posts speak for themselves. If you don't care for the way you're being judged by your posts, change their tone.

I don't see the connection between his remarks and being misogynistic. Misogyny is the hatred or mistrust of women. Selling golf clubs for money so a woman, whom he is in a relationship with, can purchase what she wants is hardly the behavior you'd see in a misogynist.

I also don't see the connection to chauvinism. He simply stated that the money would used to purchased things a woman might be interested in. He didn't say women are 'inferior' or anything remotely along those lines. I took it as a comment about the differences between his interests and those of women (generally speaking of course).

Was it the most diplomatic, politically-correct sentence? No. However, its my opinion that it hardly fell in line with the misrepresentation you've painted.

I find his statement demeaning to women...if you don't see it that way, that's ok, everyone's entitled to his/her own opinion, that's what free speech is all about. I saw it as insinuating that "whatever" women buy is frivolous or less important and that he couldn't be bothered to familiarize himself with her spending preferences. But, hey, maybe I did jump to conclusions...maybe he doesn't really hate women, maybe he's just naturally condescending and oblivious to that fact, who knows?

I do know this...this thread has gotten waaaaay off topic. In an effort to right the ship...I haven't been able to find anything concerning handshake protocol on the 18th green. So all I have is my opinion...which is that if I were Tiger it wouldn't bother me one way or the other if Stevie happened to shake someone's hand first. Personally, it would bother me more if my caddy didn't remove his hat first, as I would (and as Tiger does), before shaking hands with the opposition. I'm certain that Tiger and Steve have had ample opportunity to discuss their protocol routine so I can only assume that anything Steve does while on the course gets Tiger's tacit approval...well, except for dropping his 9 iron in the drink.

Re: Steve Williams - etiquette

I would hate to know that any of you would take a debate or joke made on an internet forum so seriously.(there are exceptions to this, some things are completely inappropriate anywhere) I can't speak for everyone but I certainly don't assume to know any of you from what you type on this forum. I dont remove my hat inside but I am almost positive that the majority of you would get along with me and even find me to be a respectful stand-up guy if you were to know me in person. Sometimes it's fun to just stir the pot.

Re: Steve Williams - etiquette

The start of this thread was all about etiquette on the part of Steve Williams ... as a good Kiwi I leapt to his defence ... he may well be "bigheaded" but I can now add that he is also extremely generous - he has just donated more that NZ$1 million (US$750,000+) to the largest Children's hospital in New Zealand for their new cancer ward (Starship Hospital) ... say what you like about the guy - his heart is in the right place.

Zactly. Just to set the record straight, when I write something like I did about selling my girlfriend's clubs, it's to be silly in a donkey (the other word for donkey) kind of way... I shouldn't have gotten all upset about being criticized over it. But, that IS what free speech is all about.

Re: Steve Williams - etiquette

You cant beat a bit of controversy, surely thats all part of not just this forum but all forum's appeal. How boring would it be to all have the same likes/dilikes etc? I know this thread went a bit of course but it was a interesting one to follow.

Re: Steve Williams - etiquette

I just don't want to be labelled a chauvinist or misogynist. Although I made a distasteful joke on the general subject of women, I certainly don't fit into those two categories.

My girlfriend wants to sell her clubs, what she'll do with the money, I have no idea. I HOPE she doesn't buy $200 worth of tampons, LOL.
