Steve Williams - etiquette

I have been noticing this a lot lately. It seems like at the end of every round, Steve Williams rushes out to Tiger's playing competitors and shakes hands with them before Tiger.

As anyone else noticed this? It seems a bit awkward, and honestly, I think he should stay behind and let Tiger shake with his playing competitors first. Any thoughts?

Always hard to judge a character when never meeting him but if Steve is guilty of this action then he should step back and show respect to the players. I haven't noticed this but there again It would not surprise me. He is a bit FULL of himself !!

I understand he also chews with his mouth open and doesn't use a napkin. I've heard (from a cousin of a friend of a sponsor for the Hooters Tour that Steve Williams farts when feeling stressed. Come on guys...its pretty sad that we're discussing Steve being the first to shake hands versus the upcoming Tour Championship.

Re: Steve Williams - etiquette

I didn't know that was bad etiquette. Is there, in fact, an order in which to shake hands? If I had to guess, he's probably trying to finish up all the formalities on the 18th green quickly so Tiger can into the scoring tent as soon as possible.

Re: Steve Williams - etiquette

I am serious.

Think about great duels in golf history, and you will see the competitors shake hands on the 72nd hole. When Phil won in boston two weeks ago, he was congratulated on the 72nd green by... Stevie.

SuperTiger, feel free to start a Tour Championship or farting thread.

Yes. I've also heard from a reliable source that he hates puppies and babies.

SuperTiger18,

Honestly, when I read your reply, I laughed out loud. You hit the nail on the head for me!!!
This is probably the ****** thread I've ever seen.

I've been curious as to how good of a golfer Williams is. Does anyone know?

Re: Steve Williams - etiquette

Wikipedia profile says he was a 2 handicap at the age of thirteen. I had forgotten about the slip where he lost Tiger's club in the water at the '06 Ryder cup.

Well he's obviously a lot older than 13 presently, so that handicap number could have easily changed as well.

Yep, I'm sure you're right. And probably more to the plus side.

His profile makes him appear to be a stand-up kind of guy, what with the charitable foundation back home for younger golfers. If you can trust Wikipedia.

Re: Steve Williams - etiquette

Has anyone noticed that Tiger is one of very few American players who always removes his hat when shaking hands after the last putt.

Every European player does it, but for whatever reason, most of the guys from the States never do it.
