golf requires a lot of confidence in your swing. once you have this thought it your head it messes with your swing. and Tiger being Tiger, not only he's good, and he knows he's good but he also gets a lot of confidence boost from the fans and media. So he can only benefit from that. On the other hand, the other players get put down, and intimidated by media which keeps on saying that Tiger never lost when in contention, or Tiger is too good, etc. This erodes confidence and when you have this at the back of your mind, it stops you from making great shots.
Try thinking about bad shots next time you're on the course, especially with water in front of you. It'd mess you up. I know it does me countless of times.
Yep...we need events that Tiger plays in that are open to more than just PGA Tour players. There are tons of people that can give Tiger some serious competition, but don't get the chance.
Maybe Tiger will invest part of the money into a new annual Beat Tiger event. Qualifying at events worldwide for everyone with a low enough handicap that cares to play.
Sponsored by Nike, Buick, etc. of course...promise a profit and Tiger will listen.

I don't know where these people are playing now, but they'd ought to try out for the PGA Tour. Maybe they don't want to?
You see week in and week out the scores at the Nationwide tournaments are -17, -20, -22. Those guys can't even get through PGA Tour Q-School. There's no doubt that they are good and some of them will make it to the PGA someday, but they can't touch Tiger... four of them could play a scramble team and lose to him.
Does anyone recall the time when Greg Norman was going to make his own tour for only the most elite golfers to play some sort of top echelon golf tour? It was back around the time he was #1 in the SONY rankings.
That's what they need to do now. Take Tiger, Phil, Vijay, all the top 10 SGWR people and make them all play together away from the PGA Tour.
Actually what Norman proposed back in 1994 was a World Tour. Finchem publicly skewered him in the PR Department over that one, framing it as an elitist viewpoint that would not be in the best interests of the Tour as a whole.
In reality, Norman's proposal was pretty close to what we ended up with five years later when the three WGC events were introduced (four if you count the World Cup team competition - it's been around since 1953, but starting with this year it's no longer a WGC deal).
As a golfer, I enjoy watching Woods play. He is without question, the best golfer to ever play the game. It's too bad however that the talent pool is so weak on tour, that we don't get the equivilent of a: 2 minute drill TD pass, walk off Home Run, Double OT 3 point swish at the buzzer, etc., when he is in the field. If this guy sits on top of the leaderboard at the turn.....You can switch the channel and spend the rest of the day watching, "Bowling for Dollars". He is so much better than the "Rank & File ", the tournament becomes a bore!
Sounds like Tiger thinks he's too good for the tour too... Article
Awesome link jseigle! Thanks!

Tiger Woods Looking For More Competitive Golf Tour
ATLANTA—Following his dominating performance at this year's Tour Championship, in which he not only ran free of the field with an overpowering eight-shot victory but also took home the first ever FedEx Cup Championship, 13-time major winner Tiger Woods told reporters Sunday that he is looking to participate in a more competitive golf tour during the 2008 season. "Don't get me wrong—I love to play golf, I love to win, and I've loved the time I've spent on the PGA Tour, but winning this easily isn't making me any better," said Woods, adding that he has been searching online and making numerous phone calls to locate a golf tour where the players are "at least twice as good as the opponents I've faced up until now." "It's not about the money, as I'll play for free if I know I'm being pushed to even half of my ability." Woods added that he would consider playing certain PGA Tour events next year if Commissioner Tim Finchem allows him to spot the field 10 strokes, play at night, and use only a single golf ball and a 2-iron.
