I agree with the intent of your statement. Tiger is so much better than the rest, that there is little competition for him, when he is on. When he is off, he still has a chance to win, but at least it is a level playing field. He is that much better than the rest.
Personally, when he gets a 3 shot lead, I turn off the set. It's not that exciting to watch. I prefer close battles that come down to the wire. He did have a brief lead in the Masters and US Open, but he never really looked his best those weeks.
What still escapes me as how "relatively poorly" he plays in the Ryder Cup. Some of the real great players played awesome in the Ryder Cup.
The other guys may get another chance around 2010, during TW's next scheduled swing change, when he may limit himself to just 4-5 meager wins per season. Between that swing change and next he will be breaking all the big records, which should be fun to watch.
It's great to be able to watch him play, but he makes some tourney's a bit boring unfortunately as most of his wins are decided after the 9th hole of the final round.
i love it.
one day we will tell our kids and grandchildren how we wereable to watch the best golfer in historybreak all the records. i just sit back and enjoy every second f it.
he's good, no doubt about it, but still he's human, and watching him hit shots after shots in a big tournament, I still hold my breath. after all golf is golf and the ball is round.
Does anyone recall the time when Greg Norman was going to make his own tour for only the most elite golfers to play some sort of top echelon golf tour? It was back around the time he was #1 in the SONY rankings.
That's what they need to do now. Take Tiger, Phil, Vijay, all the top 10 SGWR people and make them all play together away from the PGA Tour.
Rather than ask is Tiger to good maybe the question should by 'Why arent the rest as good or better'?
tiger has raised the bar considerably its up to the rest to put in the time and effort required to match and beat him.
They are all great ball strikers on Tour or they wouldn't be there. IMHO Tiger's mental game may be the best there has ever been. You can hit a million balls, pump iron, run, whatever, but if your mental game isn't there you won't win. Down to the core he really believes in himself. Not many golfers can say that. Not many human beings can say that.
