Looks like Mark Calcavecchia or Davis Love. Tiger might be an interesting thought. When Paula Creamer talked about winning this year's Solheim for Juli Inkster then I thought about Tiger as a Ryder Cup captain. Would the U.S. be inspired to win for him? Would there a renewed fire if Tiger was captain?

Reason: typo
I think Calcavecchia would be a great choice. He is universally liked on tour, but he has enough competitive fire in him to get in someone's face if he thinks they need it. Plus, he's cool enough to go throw back a couple of pints with that same person later when the golf is over.
I just hope no captain ever makes the mistake of trying to get Phil and Tiger to play together again....
I would be fine with Calc or Love, but realistically, if Tiger showed interest in the position, he could probably do it for about the next 10 Ryder Cup matches. No one would object.
There is no set rule as to the age of the captain. However, late 40's seems to be a popular age for the captain. He is usually past his prime, and unable to compete as a player, and still a couple of years shy of joining the senior tour.
IMO wont matter who team USA goes for still think Europe will edge it but it will be a lot closer than in previous years.
The thing that might help us is that Europe may potentially lose some players whop played in the last two Ryder Cups (Darren Clarke, Paul McGinley, and David Howell). Colin Montgomerie and Lee Westwood may only get in as captain's picks.
We look like Vaughn Taylor, JJ Henry, Chad Campbell, and Chris DiMarco is gone.
The more players that Europe loses, the worse it is for them and better for us. The more players we lose, the better for us.
Well, Tiger will only be like 34 in 2010. He'll be the captain in 2024.
Another bad loss, and the PGA might get desperate and ask for Tiger. Maybe, they might go after Larry Nelson or Hale Irwin. They've overhauled their points criteria lately, so maybe they will change this.

I agree totally. Losing Vaughn Taylor, JJ Henry, Chad Campbell, and Brett Wetterich is the biggest blessing the US team could hope for. Chris DiMarco is slumping, but I wouldn't rule him out as a Captain's pick in the case he doesn't start playing better. He's a good match play kind of guy.
We look like this so far...
Tiger Woods - world's best player and a greatest possible asset to team USA Jim Furyk - another asset, hope he plays his best Zach Johnson - played great in the last R.C. Woody Austin - this is a question mark... but he is capable for sure Stewart Cink - I have to look at his win/loss record, I'm not too excited about him Joe Durant - reminiscent of Taylor, Wetterich, Campbell and Henry Hunter Mahan - I'm excited about this, he's got talent and hopefully can handle match play situations Jerry Kelly - feelings the same as those for Durant David Toms - I dunno??? hmmmm Steve Stricker - hope he plays his best, and how the heck is he #10 in Ryder Cup points behind Joe Durant and Stewart Cink who haven't done squat lately???
Cap's picks... Verplank (#11) for sure. Maybe Oberholser (#14), Davis Love (#15), Bubba Watson (#19) or Charles Howell (#23), Mickelson (#51) or DiMarco (#53).
How is Mickelson so low???
How about Taylor, Henry, Wetterich and Campbell you ask. Here's their current Ryder Cup points rankings...

Way too early, since the points only came from 2007 majors and 2006 Fall Schedule.
I think Jerry Kelly would be a great asset. He was on the President's Cup and he has the fire and detemrination.
If Chris DiMarco doesn't improve, he won't be a captain's pick.
Tiger may be talented, but I question if he really helps team chemistry or hurts it.
If Charles Howell plays like he did for the last six months, forget it.
My captain's picks would be Verplank, Kelly, Mahan , and Snedeker. I wouldn't rule out Weekley or Glover or O'Hair or Oberholser. Forget about Love.
