The Good side of Woody Austin? Creating FIRE in Phil?

This week has been a turnaround week for Woody Austin's reputation.

His comeback on Friday afternoon may have been the spark for the American's Saturday morning sweep. If that match had been lost, the score would have seemed much closer going into Saturday. However, it was not his Friday fire that has impressed thus far.

After he fell in the water and was two down, he had a smile on his face! Like everyone else in the world, he thought it was hilarious! Woody-like?? HECK NO. If it were a stroke play event his club would have been laid to rest at the bottom of the pond.

Secondly, many people will agree that Phil likes his money and likes playing for cash. This is the man who wanted a check bigger than him if he were to win the Fed-ex cup. This week, regardless of his record, Phil has had a lot of fun playing with Woody, and he we saw true fire in his eyes when he made the putt for a half yesterday.

Usually Phil's "fire" has a smile to go along with it, which ruins his so called "competitive edge" all together. Do you know why he smiles? Because he is usually thinking about the GIANT check hes going to receive in the mail!

Was it Woody, or is there something special about standing (or falling) in the water on 14?

I've got to agree, Woody's reputation probably did a 180 with his performance in The Presidents Cup. I watched all of Thursday and part of Friday's play and he was so solid...there wasn't a shot that the guy didn't make when he had to. Woody's personality is pretty fiery to begin with and then adding national pride to the equation and I can see how it would really rub off on Phil.

Whatever it is...its working and Phil's feeding off of it.

I loved woody before. The guy is a riot. I mean I wish every one would beat themselves with a putter every time they missed a 20'. Makes for Great TV.
