Re: Tiger refuses an interview after loss to Mike Weir
Tiger is a sore loser...I am too. Anyone who LOVES to win is a sore loser. He HATES losing. I do too. I darn sure would avoid interviews immediately after blowing a lead too. He was looking out for #1...Better to not speak than to speak when you are emotionally charged and say something you and others would regret. Did anyone ever consider giving the man time and space to regain his composure before talking about a disappointing loss?
Re: Tiger refuses an interview after loss to Mike Weir
I'd have to say the best point is that only Tiger knows the real reason, but all very good points! I was surprised to not see any hardcore Tiger defenders.
I think he was just unhappy about the way he finished, and even possibly a mental thing; to forget about the loss as soon as possible and not have the media remind him about it.
It was a team event, and rightfully so the focus should have been on the US victory, not the US victory and Tigers loss. Golf is a difficult sport to make about a team, and the media often doesnt help.

To answer the original question: I do suspect TW is a sore loser. And I have no problem with that. And I do not need to see a disgruntled TW interview. But I did want to see a happy Mike Weir interview. Therefore, TW made the correct call on this one, IMO.

Y'know, I didn't give that enough consideration...Tiger could be deferring to the winner. Nawp...in the end I think bones is right...losses sting and Tiger don't wanna talk about it.

Maybe it's just semantics, but why does wanting to win make you a sore loser? I'm sure Tiger was very unhappy that he lost, but I would bet his anger was directed at himself because he was disappointed in his own performance.
Tiger didn't ask to be a role model or your friend. Why hold him to a higher standard - just because he's in the limelight?

I don't think it would be the fact that he wants to win that makes him a sore loser, it's the conduct that ensues when he doesn't when. Those are two different things.
I also did not get the take that anyone is holding him to a higher standard at all. It's a general standard of sportsmanship and class that applies across the board to everyone. Even us little people.
Re: Tiger refuses an interview after loss to Mike Weir
You have to admit, it does appear to be somewhat unsporting, doesn't it? I think a lot of people see Tiger as a sore loser, whether that is the real reason or not. It just does not seem very gentlemanly. When you win, you should be gracious, and the same when you lose.
Re: Tiger refuses an interview after loss to Mike Weir
I am not necessarily defending Tiger, but I try to imagine myself in his shoes. When I am playing in a tournament, I am seething after making a bogey, and I find myself not talking for a hole or so, just to keep myself from saying or doing something that might offend my fellow competitors. So, I can only imagine my anger X 10,000 for someone like Tiger.
And, another way to look at it. Imagine if you make an error at your job, a big error, one that costs your company money, and perhaps could hurt your reputation in the business... would you want to be interviewed about it just minutes later? It would be pretty tough to be pleasant and engaging with a microphone in your face.
