Possibly some aspirin or tylenol, a few band-aids, tape. I've never played in a tournament, but I'd think some of these things could be usefull, you never know if/when you'll get a blister, headache, etc.
An airhorn
Some stink bombs
Firecrackers
Some M-80's or quarter sticks if there are any ponds on the course
A flask or two of whiskey
Nah, but seriously, here's my advice. Bring an umbrella if there is a good chance of rain. Dress for the weather. Other than that, travel light. I've been to a few tourneys and there's nothing worse than walking around carrying junk you don't need. I bring a snack like a granola bar and nothing else. I never sit at one hole. I'd rather walk the course and follow a group I'm interested in for a number of holes.
Carrying fold-up chairs and huge jugs of water are a big-time hassle. You want to be able to relax and enjoy your spectating experience. You'll probably amass some programs and other junk to carry let alone bringing anything.
I agree with Martini - only bring what you're willing to carry. That being said, I usually bring the following - water, snacks, hat, very small umbrella, small towel to sit on (I get tired of standing), sunglasses, but I carry a purse/tote. Put your sunscreen on in your car or at home - you don't need to lug that with you. Ok - I'm going to be a total girl here, but I bring tissues and hand sanitizer too.
It is fun to move around, but I will sometimes sit at one hole for a while. Then you get to see several different players and you'll already have a good vantage point before the crowd following the more popular players show up.
Have a good time!

Reason: typo
I go to that tournament every year (friend owns the home next door to Wayne Gretzky) so all of us hang out on the patio and walk some of the course to watch.
Wear comfortable shoes with traction...theres a few elevation changes there (hilly)...so you want traction...bring a windbreaker...it can get chilly there.
Bottled water is good and some snack bars...the more important thing is what NOT to bring.
Sherwood will NOT allow you to bring cameras or cell phones on the premises...and most likely you'll be parking a ways from the course and you'll be ****** being refused admittance at their gate and having to walk all the way back to your car to drop off the cell phone or camera....and return.
Next thing is don't buy souvenirs till AFTER the event is over...they will have tables set up on the deck as you leave with discounted items.
I was at the scottish open this year at loch lomond and the only thing i would recommend would be is to take your own food. The prices in these tournaments are very expensive....have fun.
Haha I thought you said you were playing in your first tournament, not watching your first tournament. With that being said, disregard what I said up above.
Martini, you have obviously visited the british open on the final day.
Yeah, I'm actually thinking of picking up where that streaker guy left off. That guy with "19th hole" painted on his back and an arrow pointing to his anus. An article from '07 alluded to his retirement.
Great advice everyone...thanks much. Who knows, maybe tylenol and band-aids may come in handy if I'm hit by an errant Tiger shot. Looking forward to going, and I'll post any interesting anecdotes as I seem 'em.
