Re: Ian Poulter says he is the only one who can challenge Tiger... LOL
I don't think any of these guys are crazy for saying what they say. I mean if Poulter was asked if he thought he could beat Tiger or be better than him and said no, that would be nuts to me. What is the point of even playing then. He and some of the other guys that make comments like this would probably be better off saying it in a different way or just avoiding it altogether like most guys do. I'd be willing to bet that most guys on the PGA Tour thinks that they have the potential to be better than Tiger. Maybe not in an all-time ranking, but for the season or through the next 5 years something like that. If you go into a tournament with the mindset that you can't win...you won't. No matter how far-fetched it sounds i have never played in a tournament, match or whatever and thought that i couldn't win or didn't have a chance. To me that seems like a waste of time

From Merlin: "I doubt tiger would even notice him, unless he was in one of his more colorful outfits"
Actually Tiger noticed what he said, in an interview in before the presentation in the Dubai classic, when asked about Phil at number 2, Tiger jokingly responded "Oh I thought Ian Poulter was number 2?"
hahaha!!!
Nice one, Tiger!!

Well said...and I agree, you have to believe you can win to play your best. But just because you believe you can do it (some day), doesn't mean you should announce that you're #2 material until you've actually earned it. Play it, don't say it.

Shade
He's proberly right, but he cant. And i reckon theres quite a few other golfers on tour who could be numebr 2 and give Tiger a run. But no one day, its pretty much only Tiger who does play to his potential week in week out.
Cant see that changing any time soon, although Scott did look good the other day!
Re: Ian Poulter says he is the only one who can challenge Tiger... LOL
i was a huge fan of what tiger said in his post round interview at dubai. i dont know the exact quote but the interviewer asked tiger how he felt about how large his lead was over the second ranked player, phil mickelson, in the world rankings. tigers reply was along the lines of, "wait i thought poulter was second in the world?"
all they do when they chirp at tiger is add fuel to the fire
Re: Ian Poulter says he is the only one who can challenge Tiger... LOL
Personally I thought that it was pretty clear in the initial report! It did not even imply that Poulter reckoned he was better than Tiger, simply that he believed that Tiger was all but untouchable and he was the best bet to get close.
This sort of comment is bold but it lacks the outright stupidity of comments made by others who actually put down Tiger's ability.

At this point, I would consider stating that "I'm better than everybody except Tiger if I really play well" outright stupidity.

Yeah I know . Ian Poulter
I think that Aaron Baddely played very well against Tiger last week . He would have more of a chance on challenging Tiger than Poulter
