phil displays poor etiquette in 04 masters

next time you watch highlights of phil's 2004 win watch how early he begins walking to get behind dimarco's putt on the 18th hole (to get a good read on his). he leaves literally in chris's backswing. the sad part is he is right in his line of sight.

completely classless and sellfish on phil's part.

oh and who can forget phil holding his 3 yr old up daughter and saying " daddy won! can you believe it?"

i don't know "what phil will do next"...but i will tell you what i'm going to do next:

not root for mickelson.

You most likely saw that on the golf channel. I noticed the same thing but I think its questionable whether phil was actually in his line of sight. Dimarco didn't complain so most likely not.

He came from behind Dimarco, 20-25 feet away, and further up the slope on the 18th green.

That's a three tier green, and the slope Mickelson was on is significantly above where his playing partner was.

Not buying your theory as I don't think Phil was anywhere near the 120 degree field of peripheral vision.

Re: phil displays poor etiquette in 04 masters

Phil and Chris are good pals, and right before Chris's putt Phil said to him "Show me the line bud" (Phil's ball was right on Chris's line, just closer to the hole) Chris replied "You betcha". Anyway, Phil was 20-30 feet behind Chris and off to the side, I don't think he was showing any poor etiquette their at all.

Re: phil displays poor etiquette in 04 masters

next time you watch highlights i think you will see phil was a lot closer than 20-30 feet behind dimarco. the angle i saw it appeared he was facing him and only 10 feet away if that.

i know they are buddies and i have no problem with moving into position to get a look at the put....AFTER the player has finished his stroke. not while he is in the middle of it.

no real anger towards phil. just seemed a little selfish to me.

Re: phil displays poor etiquette in 04 masters

Sam is right, Chris was fine with it - in fact Chris TOLD him walk behind him like he did. I know what you thought you saw, but that's a huge green and he was pretty far behind him - much more than 10 feet.
Also, remember at the time Phil was "the best golfer to never win a major", so when he won, it was a huge deal for him and his family. Consequently, his remark to his kid was justified.

Apparently, you don't have kids or you would know to give them more credit than is due in terms of what the comprehend and understand. She may not know that he Dad just won a major and the significance, but she knows her Dad won in a game she has grown up with against all the other men who were playing. To me, sounds like someone is just hating....

Out with the old and in with the new. Who cares about what someone did in 2004. Tiger has thrown clubs in previous years and you don't see people hating on him for it still.
